From the Newmaverse: Democrats, Republicans and gas prices

 https://finance.yahoo.com/news/from-the-newmaverse-democrats-republicans-and-gas-prices-133921112.html

A lot of Biden critics and Democrat-haters seem to think Republican presidents keep gas prices low while Democrats send them higher. In a way, that squares with Biden’s effort to reduce fossil-fuel use and pivot to renewables.

But are gas prices really higher under Democratic presidents? Not by much. To answer the question, you have to analyze gas prices in constant dollars, adjusted for inflation, since the nominal price of many things goes up over time. Adjusting for inflation tells us how much things in the past would cost in today’s dollars.

Under Democrats Carter, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and now Joe Biden, the average gas price has been $2.96 per gallon, in 2022 dollars. Under Republicans Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush and Donald Trump, the average price was $2.84. So yeah, gas prices are higher under Democrats … by 12 cents.

  2. KA morality always must be ignored if there is monetary concerns and therefore Biden must be wrong

  3. but no moral problems with cosying up to dictators in Venezuela and Iran, for cheap oil...

  4. BTW - there is no morality here, only immorality.
Biden has called KSA and UAE to get more oil from them, and they refused his call. So Biden is not taking a moral stand - it is just that he needs to compensate for loss of Russin oil, by mekareiving those who he formerly criticised.

to be very friendly to someone with the hope of getting an advantage:

it means they are making a quick peace, or at least concessions, to dictators whom they have long boycotted - eg Venezeula

  6. Funny, because he could've called Canada. We have plenty to share but for some reason, neither Biden nor Trudeau want to build pipelines. Apparently when you don't build pipelines but instead import oil using carbon-producing tankers from terrorist-sponsoring companies, it's good for the environment.

  15. actually, the "cherem" in modern terms is like a boycott.
If you place a cherem on somebody, people will no longer be allowed to buy from his store.

The idea of buying oil from Venezuela is simply saying he is the lesser of 2 evils - but the boycott has to be eased or lifted for it to work.
The 2 options are cherem or cozying up.
when there was no cherem on Russia, some people were accusing the West of cozying up to them.
