U.S. Political Party Preferences Shifted Greatly During 2021

Bottom Line

The year 2021 was an eventful one in politics, after a similarly eventful 2020 that also saw major shifts in party preferences. In early 2021, Democratic strength reached levels not seen in nearly a decade. By the third quarter, those Democratic gains evaporated as Biden's job approval declined. The political winds continued to become more favorable to Republicans in the fourth quarter, giving the GOP an advantage over Democrats larger than any they had achieved in more than 25 years.

The final monthly survey of 2021 showed the parties at roughly even strength, although that still represents a departure from the historical norm of the Democratic Party's having at least a slight advantage in party affiliation.

  1. Anticipate that the Republicans will do well in the fall elections.
The Democrat message won't be "Vote for us because we want to make America a strong, prosperous and caring country." It will be "Vote for us, otherwise you're a horrible racist, misogynist trans-and-homo-and-Islamophobe." And that message turns people off.
Look at the recent election in Virginia. The liberal media's response wasn't "Hmmm, I guess people liked the Republican platform better." It was "Wow, we didn't realize that Virginians are such horrible people." Not a way to win voters. Look at how the Dem's tried to "cancel" Georgia when they passed a law requiring ID to vote, something pretty standard in every civilized country other than the US. You don't keep your gains in the state by treating them like trash.
The Dem's are so high on their righteousness that they will distance much of the independent vote and then be totally clueless when they get shellacked on election night. And their response? "Wow, America is a horrible, racist country!"
