implying that Jewish religious practice in the present era is rendered
obsolete,” Arusi reportedly wrote in the letter. “This is in effect part
and parcel of the ‘teaching of contempt’ towards Jews and Judaism that
we had thought had been fully repudiated by the Church.”
How is this controversial? It's the basis of their claims to legitimacy, to be "the new Israel". After all, if they drop this then they have to admit they're a nothing religion that was all invented and stole what they have from us.
ReplyDeletePoop Francis was merely parroting the nonsense promulgated by Paul, who contended that the "Law of Moses" is irrelevant, allegedly having been replaced by other teachings.
ReplyDeleteLast I checked, Hashem didn't put an expiration date on His Torah. Paul presents no biblical or other justification for contending that the time of Torah observance is over; just his assertion that it is.
Why the appearance of Jesus rules out Torah observance is not made clear. There is no appeal to what Jesus said or did. There is no mention of any prophet who might have hinted at this. There is no reference to any saying of Jesus. It just rests on Paul’s say so. To say that the argument is ‘flimsy’ is to be kind; it is simply expedient and self serving.
As I understand it, Chrisianity is a riff on the gemara in AZ where God abolishes the 7 mitzvos of Bnei Noach because no one was doing them. According to the Church, since the Jews weren't keeping the Torah, He abolished that, (chalilah) and replaced it with their narishkeit.
ReplyDeleteYashke in fact said he didn't come to change the Law (Torah) but to uphold it. The "frum" yashkaniks quote that statement of his. Well, Nittel in a few months time, we can discuss it further.
ReplyDeleteExcept that he may have said no such thing but at least this is what one major group of his followers wrote in their Greek writings about him a hundred years after he lived. Or however many years later it was. But his followers in other locations (with different so-called "gospel") didn't understand him to have said that until uniting with the others to a single religion where they took in the other "gospels." All a big sham.
ReplyDeleteKuzari said something similar - that the Torah is meaningless without the oral Law, - and has a long list of "deficiencies" of the Torah - can't read it without vowels, can't do shechita, don't know how far out of the house one can go on shabbat etc etc.
