The Rebbe went so far as to state that wigs might even be more
attractive than one's own hair. At the time, it was meant to encourage
and educate women who were of the opinion that all wigs were
aesthetically lacking. In comparison to what women might have worn in
earlier generations, the new wigs, the Rebbe said, were attractive.
This is a uniquely Lubavitcher opinion.
ReplyDeleteSo where is what you consider a good contemporary opinion?
ReplyDeleteAnd did the Rebbe ever explain why the Rebbitzen wore very little in the way of hair coverings?
ReplyDeletecan you explain your claim?
ReplyDeletethere is only 1 picture of her available on a google search, looks quite well covered

ReplyDeleteThere are strong rumours that Rav Soloveitchiks' wife never did,
and Rav Moshe's didn't for a significant portion of her life.
Well known that the Rav's wife didn't cover her hair except in shul. Don't know about Rav Moshe's. All the picture of the Rebbitzen show her with short hair and a hat. Not a wig.
ReplyDeleteThe bottom line is that, like shaatnez, certain things just stopped being observed by the Orthodox, especially in Western Europe. Neglect. Lack of interest or education. Who knows?
