rules prevent certain entities from improperly disclosing your health
information. The rules do not mean that no one can ask you about your
health information.
People get this wrong all the time. Health records are private until there's a strong public need. Schools get to demand vaccine records from pupils, for example. Same in this case. A business can demand proof of vaccination. You can say "I won't tell you because of HIPAA." The business can say "No proof of vaccination = no service. G'day."
ReplyDeleteAsking you to reveal your own medical information is not a crime, and you are free to reveal it or choose not to and face whatever the consequences are.
