Chief rabbi: Better to live abroad than among secular Israelis

https://www.ynetnews.com/article/BkGcEvlT00

Israel's Sephardic Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef has urged ultra-Orthodox Jews in the Diaspora not to move to Israel if it means living in a non-Haredi area with secular Israelis who would have a negative impact on their spiritual life.

Yosef made the comments during his weekly sermon on Saturday night while accompanied by Rabbi Haim Bitan, the visiting chief rabbi of the Tunisian island of Djerba.

  3. Where does rambam disagree with my claim above?

In hilchot melachim he says the opposite of r'Yosef jr.

Unless you consider secular jews worse than akum?

  4. Rambam does not list it as a mitzva

  5. The Gemara and Rambam refute his calculus.
In any case, there are shuls in every town in Israel, isn't that enough?

The question was not about living in Israel per se. He was alleging that it is preferable to live in chul in a frum environment than in a secular israeli environment.
The Talmud addresses this question, and says the quality of Israel is better, even in a city of idol worshippers.
This is the same Chief rabbi who declared fasting at the beginning of the pandemic, and was corrected by gedolim that it's assur to fast during a plague.
