Israeli embassies fly the rainbow flag for pride month

 https://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/308724

Israel’s embassies around the world have raised the rainbow flag today in accordance with Foreign Minister Yair Lapid’s directives, including in London, Oslo, and Vienna.

The Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem raised a rainbow flag last Tuesday, and Foreign Minister Lapid said: "For the first time ever this morning, I ordered the Foreign Ministry to fly the pride flag for pride month events. The Foreign Ministry and its employees carry a message of tolerance and freedom."

It should be noted that Yair Lapid's deputy in the Foreign Ministry, Idan Roll, belongs to the LGBT community and lives with his partner, singer and songwriter Harel Skaat.

  2. Torah thought on this week’s parsha פנחס
“The name of the Israelite who was killed, the one who was killed with the Midianite woman, was Zimri son of Salu, chieftain of a Simeonite ancestral house. The name of the Midianite woman who was killed was Cozbi daughter of Zur; he was the tribal head of an ancestral house in Midian. The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, Assail צרור the Midianites, and defeat them והכיתם אותם---for they assailed you כי צררים הם לכם, by the trickery they practiced against you בנכליהם אשר נכלו לכם---because of the affair of Peor על דבר פעור, and because of the affair of their kinswoman Cozbi, daughter of the Midianite chieftain, who was killed at the time of the plague ביום המגפה on account of Peor על דבר פעור. When the plague was over ויהי אחרי המגפה,” (Numbers 25:14-19).
    במדבר פרק כ"ה י"ז
    צָרוֹר אֶת הַמִּדְיָנִים וְהִכִּיתֶם אוֹתָם:
    רש"י
צרור - כמו זכור, שמור, לשון הווה. עליכם לאייב אותם:
Wow, terrible Balaam’s wicked advice to Cozbi daughter of Zur: “they assailed you כי צררים הם לכם, by the trickery they practiced against you בנכליהם אשר נכלו לכם---because of the affair of Peor על דבר פעור, and because of the affair of their kinswoman Cozbi, daughter of the Midianite chieftain, who was killed at the time of the plague ביום המגפה on account of Peor על דבר פעור.” Hertz Chumash says p. 703: “In xxv, 16-18, Moses is bidden to smite the Moabites because they had enticed the Israelites to the licentious and idolatrous worship of Baal-Peor.”

“It should be noted that Yair Lapid's deputy in the Foreign Ministry, Idan Roll, belongs to the LGBT community and lives with his partner, singer and songwriter Harel Skaat.” Bravo Joe Orlow. Terrible “Israel’s embassies around the world have raised the rainbow flag today in accordance with Foreign Minister Yair Lapid’s directives, including in London, Oslo, and Vienna.” The new Israel government is terrible. I see that "the PA said it has formed a high-level committee to investigate Banat’s death." Seems PA police entered Banat's house in Ramala and killed him. Banat believed in live and let live. Mordecai Kedar says he would vote for Arab party that believed in live and let live. I’m trying and failing to uptick Joe Orlow “State of Sodom.”

  3. There's a major and significant difference, though, between the state of affairs in the Land of Israel and in the United States.

And that is that the Constitution of the United Stastes guarantees free speech and the courts so far are remaining strong on upholding the right to free speech.

Just recently the highest court in the country clarified in a near unanimous ruling that a high school student could not be kicked off an extracurricular junior varsity team because she trashed the team and school using vile language on social media after failing to make the cut for the following school year's varsity team.

So, I can feel free to raise money to change the Constitution to outlaw same-sex marriage and outlaw homosexuality; to run for office on an anti-LGBT platform; to support candidates for office who are against school curricula that puts a gay lifestyle on the same level as a traditional family; and in general to write and publish whatever I want short of things like calling for violence as a way to achieve my aims and goals or such as using language that might lead others to immediately target someone.

For example, I can't say something like, "Let's attack 'X' because he is actively promoting homosexual behavior among the youth in our town."

But I can try and persuade people to support me in my campaign to publicize the evil ways of 'X' by my using rhetoric without fear of arrest for me or them.

  4. In your opinion, is the State of Israel better or worse, in this respect, and why?

  5. A while back, when it was still an issue on the table, I contacted my Congressman saying I was against people who identify as homosexuals serving in the military.

I eventually received a response. The Congressman listed several reasons why he supports homosexuals serving in the military, and the first reason he gave was that the State of Israel permits it in their military.

Jews are perceived as arbiters of morality. So, to answer your question: "worse."

  6. I meant to ask about the state of affairs regarding Freedom of Speech, in the State of Israel and in the United States.

  7. I have limited data regarding free speech in the State of Israel. Ancecdotal evidence indicates that speech that the authorities consider "inciting" can be outlawed, whereas in the U.S. the same type speech would be allowed.

A friend, if I recall right, wanted to know if it was alright to talk about expelling Jews from Gaza (Gush Khatif), why can't we also discuss expelling Arabs from Gaza? Something like that. He put out fliers. He may have been arrested. Certainly he was charged. It was a long drawn out case.

  8. Daf Hayomi Yoma 80b:
“Raba asked another strong question: The quantity of a date, during the time required for the eating of a peras, and half a peras during the time required for the eating of a peras? [If one has eaten half a peras of ritually unclean food during the time it takes to eat a peras of food, one is considered unclean and may not partake of sacred foods. Half a peras is (Er. 83a) as two friendly (generous sized) eggs, equal in size to three ordinary eggs.] R. Papa answered: Leave alone the uncleanness of the body, which is not determined by Biblical law [and consequently is not governed by such strict standards]. But could R. Papa have answered thus? Is it not written: “All the things that swarm השרץ השרץ upon the earth are an abomination they shall not be eaten. Whatsoever goeth upon the belly, and whatsoever goeth upon all fours, or whatsoever hath many feet, even all swarming things that swarm השרץ השרץ upon the earth, them ye shall not eat לא תאכלום; for they are a detestable thing כי שקץ הם. Ye shall not make yourselves detestable אל תשקצו את נפשתיכם with any swarming thingבכל השרץ that swarmeth השרץ, neither shall ye make yourselves unclean with them ולא תטמאו בהם, that ye should be defiled thereby ונטמתם בם.” (Leviticus 11:41-43 ). And R. Papa said that from here is derived the Biblical origin of the [laws concerning] the body's becoming defiled [through unclean foods]? It is really Rabbinical, and Scripture is quoted only as mere [mnemotechnical] aid [As far as Biblical law is concerned, a person could become defiled by food only by swallowing the meat of a ritually clean fowl that has died a natural death. The reference to this verse is used by R. Papa only to lend support to the more severe rabbinic law.].”
Wow. The laws of unclean whereby an unclean person is forbidden on pain of כרת from entering the Temple---require eating a minimal measure of an abomination within a minimal time span. The Gamara shows the controversy over the minimal measure of both the quantity and the time span. My magid shiur said that the law is generally minimum quantity of eating is an olive size and the minimum time span is about 4 minutes (the eating of a peras). The conclusion here is that these minimal measures are merely [mnemotechnical] aid וקרא אסמכתא בעלמה. I like that. Why? I like finding leniencies on the severe punishment of כרת. My magid shiur says that these minimal measures are Torah from Sinai. Reading Leviticus 11:41-43 who would knowingly and willingly eat abominations? Progressive Left and Reform? No, surely not.
