After Meron calamity, Haredim question the price of their own autonomy

 https://www.timesofisrael.com/after-meron-calamity-haredim-question-the-price-of-their-own-autonomy/

The story of the Meron disaster cannot be divorced from this larger story of Haredi autonomy, from the Haredi habit of establishing facts on the ground that demonstrate their strength and independence, and then crying “persecution” when those steps are challenged.

    A very good article.
Certain things can be done by chareiidi only organisation - Eg shechita, kashrut. But there are skills and expertise which do not exist among the kehilla. Eg, no such thing as a chareidi airline - no pilots, or engineers exist in the hareidi world.
There is no real disagreement - the secular and religious are united by accepting the value of human life. That is what the problem is. Need to be overseen by the State.

Could you imagine Chareidi MK's holding a press conference and announcing that they were wrong to encourage people to go in such numbers despite the safety risks? Could you imagine any Gedolim issuing a psak that next year organizers must work with State engineers and follow their recommendations?
    Me neither.

    Litvish gedolim were not involved.
Listen to rabbi Cardozo. And don't take him for a fool, he has been in the hareidi world for 50 years.
