a few years ago, "barmitzvahs" became fashionable in america for the non jews. and in fact they even had "black-mitzvahs" for certain groups. This has nothign to do with the fine Conservative or reform converts hahahaa
In some upscale neighbourhoods in LA and NY, non-Jewish girls get bas mitzvahs because why should Chrisine McDougall have to wait for her Sweet 16 when Tiffany Schwartz gets the bigger party when she's 13? (Yeah, 13 - the Reformatives moved it because of the egalitarian thing) Decades ago the Conservatives tried introducing the idea of the "Second Bar Mitzvah". Since David HaMelech says in Psalms that a normal lifespan is 70 years, if you make it to 83 you get a 2nd bar mitzvah! It didn't last long once people realized it was just a way to make people pay for more kiddush luncheons.
