- Sen. Chuck Schumer, who will soon be majority leader, believes that President Donald Trump should be removed from office using the 25th Amendment.
- Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, whose is married to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, resigned citing Trump's role in instigating his supporters to storm the US Capitol on Wednesday.
- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that if Trump is not removed from office using the 25th Amendment, the House will move to impeach him.
Impeachment could, at least theoretically lead to his being barred from ever holding public office. This would be of great (if undeserved) benefit to the Republican leadership. Still, I wonder if Pelosi is acting wisely. I see three possible explanations.

2) The possibility of impeachment will frighten Trump into behaving mimself.
3) The possibility of Impeachment will prod Pence & Co. into invoking the 25th Amendment.
Right now it is "achad asar yom mechorev" , eleven days til we are safe from destruction.
