Trump bids to take credit for Moderna vaccine while Biden offers cautious optimism

 https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/nov/16/trump-vaccine-moderna-biden-coronavirus

“Another vaccine just announced,” Trump tweeted, seeking to claim credit. “This time by Moderna, 95% effective. For those great ‘historians’, please remember that these great discoveries, which will end the China Plague, all took place on my watch!”

Rather than working to combat the virus, which is spreading faster than ever and on average killing more than 1,000 Americans a day, Trump has stayed focused on unsubstantiated claims that the presidential election was stolen.

Critics say Trump has all but surrendered to the pandemic, which has killed more than 244,000 people in the US and is averaging more than 100,000 cases per day. Michael Osterholm, an adviser to Biden, told NBC on Sunday: “We are in a very dangerous period – the most dangerous public health period since 1918.”

  1. A President sits in the Oval Office at the White House.

His role, overall, is to create and preserve conditions that contribute to people having freedom.

A President is unsuited to restricting freedom -- which is what stopping COVID requires.

Denocrats in general are more comfortable with restricting freedom than Repilublicans. There are major exceptions, of course. For example, Democrats would oppose mandatory social distancing restrictions if these rules were mandated and enforced for people with an infection STD.

The only way President-Elect.Biden is going to cut back on COVID is by using heavy hand tactics applied across the board to everybody. This will trash the economy, possibly moving in the direction of shortages of food and other essentials. Families will be impacted as kids are kept away from schools.

The country needs an approach to COVID that will lead to the eradication of the virus. That would require, it seems to me, leadership that is not afraid to weaken itself in the process. Trump was reluctant to destroy the economy and his Presidency in the process to save the country. Will Mr. Biden be willing to take the drastic steps necessary to eliminate COVID at the risk of losing power?

Will a Biden Administration use the army and police to force people to vaccinate? If so, this will be a highly unpopular move and guarantee that the Democrats will lose the White House in the next election.

  2. “Trump bids to take credit for Moderna vaccine” I got this email from a doctor in Brooklyn: “shalom HI, I have a court case in front of Judge Prus, I see you had a an article on him, is he a fair guy, what do I need to know about him ,Thanks”

My reply: “Wow I see you have a hearing tomorrow: Kings Supreme Court 0551732/2020 ACTIVE LAZAR, DINA MILLER, ZEIDERMAN, WIEDERKEHR ROSENBERG, 11/18/2020 ERIC I. PRUS, 5A My advice: Tell the judge you want shalom. Tell the judge you want sex with her as much as she’ll permit. If she forbids all sex with you, promise, b”n, to make aliya and remarry in Israel.”

  3. Or Trump has taken the long view
A year from now most Americans will be vaccinated. Rapid testing will be on every street corner. Meanwhile Europe and Canada will still be struggling with restrictions, masking and distancing as they try to figure out how to get enough of the vaccine.

  4. If only it were so easy. Covid is a political issue as much as a health issue.

Roughly half of American voters wanted to keep Donald Trump as President and/or didn't want Joe Biden as President.

A lot of these people are prone to manufacturing and/or buying into dubious claims, including certain supposed dangers of vaccines.

So now we have a perfect storm:

    1. People opposed to they and their families being vaccinated because they question the safety of the new covid vaccines and/or because they don't want to give President Biden a boost.

    2. President Biden possibly making it untenable not to be vaccinated, by either forcing vaccination under threat of criminal prosecution of those who refuse, or by creating a national vaccination database so that unvaccinated people can't have access to government services, restaurants, schools, movie theater, national parks, etc etc etc.

  5. “Trump bids to take credit for Moderna vaccine” This is a miracle from God. Torah thought on תולדת.
“Isaac said to his son, How did you succeed so quickly מהרת למצא, my son? And he said, Because the Lord your God granted me good fortune כי הקרה ה' אלקיך לפני. Isaac said to Jacob, Come closer גשה נא that I may feel you, my son—whether you are really my son Esau or not. So Jacob drew close ויגש יעקב to his father Isaac, who felt him וימשהו and said ויאמר. The voice is the voice of Jacob, yet the hands are the hands of Esau. He did not recognize him ולא הכירו, because his hands were hairy like his brother Esau’s hands כידי עשו; and so he blessed him.” (Genesis 27:20-23).
Malbim: Isaac questioned Jacob. Looks like you just went to our livestock but I told you to go to the field! Jacob replied. Truly I had no intention to hunt לצוד close to home. God happened a capture in a place not expected capture ציד of animal or fowl, just happenstance. The capture שהציד came before me hinting this is from God. Surely credit due to you.
I heard a vort. Jacob always considered all the twists and turns of his life happenstance. Happenstance = chance or a chance situation, especially one producing a good result:
Today happenstance--- a vaccine that looks 95% effective! Thank you God in heaven. Who should get the credit? Private enterprise and Trump with God’s help.

  6. And Trump is also to be thanked for interfering with its distribution because he lost the election

    ReplyDelete
  7. You forgot to mention the obvious fact that Trump refuses to share distribution plans or any other critical information because he wants to discredit Biden because he is a big baby and doesn't care about America because he didn't win the election

  8. “Daas Torah: And Trump is also to be thanked for interfering with its distribution because he lost the election” No.
“And he said, O Lord, God of my master Abraham, grant me good fortune this day הקרה נא לפני היום, and deal graciously ועשה חסד with my master Abraham:” (Genesis 12:12)
    Midrash Rabbah - Genesis LXV:11
“11. HE CALLED ESAU HIS ELDER SON (XXVII, 1). R. Leazar b. R. Simon said: This may be compared to a country that was levying a bodyguard for the king. Now a certain woman there had a son, a dwarf, whom she used to call Tallswift [a coined word]. Said she: My son is tall and swift; why then do you not appoint him? If in your eyes he is tall and swift, they retorted, in ours he is but a dwarf. In like manner, his [Esau's] father called him great, viz. HE CALLED ESAU HIS GREAT SON [Gadol (E.V. elder) is literally large or great, and the Midrash understands it thus]; his mother too called him great: And Rebekah took the choicest garments of Esau her great son (Gen. XXVII, 15). Said the Holy One, blessed be He, to them: If in your eyes he is great, in Mine he is small, as it says, Behold, I make thee small among the nations (Obad. I, 2) [The reference is to Edom (v. 1), which is identified with Esau (Gen. XXVII, 1).
Jacob felt all twists and turns of his life were from God כי הקרה ה' אלקיך לפני. Today, all twists and turns Biden v Trump are from God. In the eyes and votes of US citizens who looks tall and swift and worthy to be four more years POTUS Biden or Trump?

  9. You admit then that Trump's distribution plans are good and worthy of preserving?

  10. “Daas Torah Mod No why?” I got a further email from this doctor in Brooklyn referring to Judge Prus: “I don’t think he is fair at all. He said I have to pay for child care even in the days she doesn’t work. “As it’s hard enough to raise a family with small kids” totally against the law. He told me it will cost 100 of thousands of dollars. For the attorneys and we should settle without going to trial. It is what it is. Judges rule. Nothing I can do”
    My reply:
No. Normal for judges to push litigants to settle without going to trial. My advice. The best defense is an offense. You or your lawyer do a red herring to annoy her to get her to go down on her demands. Put on a show to annoy her. For you to show willingness to get back together, you and your ex, would likely annoy her. Keep the litigation up. Show willingness to go to trial. Show that you trust the judge to be fair and that truth will come out in a trial. Don’t antagonize the judge if possible. Antagonize her. Show that you like these legal proceedings. You’re a practicing doctor God bless you. We say every morning (Psalms 100) “A psalm for thanksgiving [traditionally for the thanksgiving offering]. Raise a shout הריעו for the Lord, all the earth כל הארץ; come before Him באו לפניו in gladness ברננה; come into His presence with shouts of joy. Know דעו that the Lord is God; He made us הוא עשנו and we are His [קראי; כתיב and some ancient versions not we ourselves] ולו אנחנו. His people עמו, the flock He tends וצאן מרעיתו. Enter His gates with thanksgiving בתודה. His courts חצרתיו with praise בתהלה., Give thanks to Him הודו לו! Bless His name! For the Lord is good; His steadfast love לעולם חסדו is eternal; His faithfulness is for all generations ועד דר ודר אמונתו”.

Beautiful. It's men that have sexual desires. Women are plotting. In my papers I did mention that days before I made aliya 7/8/1991 Susan came to me (and had 2 orgasms). Susan was sweet and lovely in person, but plotting and mean in court papers.
