you are not on a level to say chodosh ossur min hatorah! The Chatam Sofer in his day was fighting Reform, but this is not a reform chiddush, it is well within halacha.
Rav Obadiah yosef ztl had a preference to go according to the s.a. and not the Ben ish chai. A lot of debate in the Sephardi world, a bit like mitnagdim (beit yosef) and chassidim (ish chai).
