Despite recent political disfunction, it was just reported that Israel may nevertheless be heading for some form of a limited-scope Unity Government (between both Likud and Blue and White mainstream blocks). That means the religious parties will be asked to, or seek to compromise to join. Will they compromise on the drafting of girls? The saintly Brisker Rov ZT"L [whom many of those elected officials acknowledge as a Gadol] held it was better to close all the Yeshivos than to draft girls, even into Sheirut Leumi, if indeed ever faced with such a dilemma ("The Brisker Rav," Vol.3, pp. 49–51, 56–57).* However, the religious parties, in contrast, now allow the drafting of girls to pass quietly, apparently under the pretext of helping their own institutions.  Additionally, the religious parties now have an increasingly resonant national-defense argument against expending resources on drafting religious girls, if they'd ever be inclined to use it. The Army needs the girls like a Katushya in the Knesset. Galei Tzahal Radio reported months ago that the IDF is encumbered with a 5-digit troop surplus. On the other hand, anti-missile defense is sorely inadequate. Several weeks ago, it was reported that Netanyahu recently requested four BILLION shekel for missile and drone defense, in light of the threat illustrated by the game-changing Sept.14 drone attack on Saudi oil production. The "HaKotarot" (Nov.25, in Ivrit) just reported a former Israeli Air Defense official in the Air Force, Tzvika Heimowitz, interviewed in The Jerusalem Post, warning about the inadequacy of Israeli missile defense in event of a serious conflict with Iranian proxies. R"L, thousands of missiles would rain down from multiple sources, and would overwhelm current defenses. [In that context, one could see the recent missile barrages not so much as practice runs, as much as merely testing Israeli responses, to feel out weaknesses, and prepare for a far graver mutlipronged assault, dwarfing anything Israel haa ever experienced (including the first Gulf War).] Thus, the entire "Equality-justified" emphasis on chasing teenage girls to fill up an already over-staffed army is easy to argue against, in context of geostrategic realities.

  1. The author of these articles is unable to articulate a logical argument. Why would closing of yeshivas help prevent recruitment -draft of frum men and women? It will achieve the opposite, since there will then be hundreds of thousands of frum people who left school, and have no excuse to avoid conscription. Why is quoting single lines from a gadol who rejected the state 70 years ago going to help the situation today?
How many aidah people have been drafted?

  2. They live in a time warp where history didn't happen, and the battle they fought against statehood hasn't already been lost 70 years ago.

the only and main rationalle for cooperation with the apikores atiestic Govenment of Israel is fearof closing of yeshivos so thats what the Great Brisker Rav said that better agree to have all yeshivos close rather then sagree to cmpromise on the drafting of Girls to the Mild Sharut leumi civli service of the IDF and state of ISRAEL!

The Government is not threatening to close the yeshivot, so where did this buba-maaiseh come from?

The brisker Rav may have been addressing a specific situation in his day. the Chazon ish begged to differ. He said , and did cooperate with the government and petitioned them to stop the draft of both frum young men and women. I think for women he said yeharaig v'lo yaavor.

However, you totally ignored what I said, hence call yourself the shoteh, not me.

If you close down the yeshivos as as protest (and the seminaries) you will have half a million frum young people who are not in learning. They may not be in work, but even if they are, they have no excuse to the government, and will all be drafted!

What will you do with these half million people? Find them all jobs? send them to university? that is something like the population of Jerusalem. the government, who you call "atheists" will be very excited, and put these all in the army, kibbutzim etc. So your crazy ideas, or the author's crazy ideas, are just that - crazy!
The Brisker Rov was in a different time, with a much smaller population, and smaller number of students. He did not accept the State, whereas the CI did (and even met with Mr Ben Gurion OBM)).

In any case, the leaders of today are Rav Kanievsky and Gershon Edelstein, and they are guiding the situation.

  7. Maybe the girls will be part of the anti-missile brigades, and will be doing pikuach nefesh!

  8. The only thing a girl can possibly do in the Army is ZNUS

  9. I asked my cousins what the atmosphere was like in the army, they said its not like one great "orgy", and soldiers are focused on security and warfare. So the average Joe, even secular, is not at risk of znus. Even outside of the army, general population is not following Halacha. YOU should worry about maasei sdom that take place in hareidi gay bath mikves, or perverts like freundel, who put cameras in women's mikve.

  14. Physical injuries, yes. If they operate radar system, for example, it's better and safer.

  16. Harassment goes on in hareidi world, rz, and no. In yeshivas, shuls, schools, mikves. Because of moiser, they rarely get reported. In a case in London, hareidi thugs attacked the house of mosrim, and Dayan padwa criticised the victim's family for going to the police. Same as the story of Lot, when the sodomites surrounded his house.
