Though Trump said Wednesday that "100%" of ISIS had been defeated, forces on the ground suggest otherwise. An August report by the Pentagon estimates that ISIS is “resurging” in Syria and has as many as 18,000 militants there and in Iraq. And although its threat had dissipated in recent times, it has not disappeared. On October 11, the group claimed responsibility for a car bomb attack on a popular restaurant in the Syrian-Kurdish city of Qamishli, which killed at least three civilians.

Trump walks back claim of defeating ‘100% of the ISIS caliphate’

the president told a different story on Monday during a speech to law enforcement officers in Chicago ahead of two fundraising events at a hotel he owns in the Windy City.
He told the officers that once the U.S. military — which had help from Kurdish forces Trump recently allowed to be attacked by Turkey’s military — had eliminated “70 percent” of the so-called caliphate, “I said, ’Let’s go home.’”

  1. another great Trump "victory". However, if the emerge again, who is isis going to fight? Presumably Hezbollah, Iran, Russia and Syria - which is not such a bad thing, as long as they reduce the numbers of hezbollah and Iran.

  2. ISIS is a symptom of Islam. You can't possibly kill off every single ISIS fighter or sympathizer.

  3. However, the ISIS Caliphate was wiped out.

Even Chuck Schumer, in trying to critique Trump's ongoing plans, admits that ISIS was defeated.
"President Trump’s announcement includes no plan to ensure the enduring defeat of ISIS " - Chuck Schumer tweeted this statement.

How can a defeat be debated whether forthcoming actions will preserve it as enduring or not enduring, if the defeat never took place? As Schumer's comments reflect, everyone agreed that it took place until it just now became a new talking point to question whether it did. Tomorrow the talking point will be something else (Like, "Trump's bad plan will make sure the defeat doesn't endure!!" for instance)
