ALLEGED VICTIM OF ABUSE DEMANDS RABBI BE CONDEMNED, SUES FORMER YESHIVA

Amitai Dan, 34, was a pupil in the prestigious Horev high school yeshiva in Jerusalem where Elon served as dean from 1987 to 2002, studying there for just one year in 2002 during grade 11.

Dan alleges that during a private meeting he had with Elon in the dean’s office to discuss personal issues, Elon touched him, stroked him, and embraced him in an inappropriately sexual manner and sought to touch his genitals, which Dan resisted.

He said that when Elon was touching him in this way he asked explicitly if such touching was permitted in Jewish law and that the rabbi told him it was.

Dan was shocked and traumatized by the incident. At first he had trouble even reconciling the fact that his yeshiva dean who he respected had acted in this way, and then tried to dismiss the incident altogether and push it out of his memory.

During the 16 years that passed, including the period of Elon’s trial and conviction for two counts of indecent assault by force against a minor, Dan says that he did not come forward with his complaints because it was hard to break the societal taboo of stating in public that he had been sexually molested and that the incident and other events in his life had presented him with challenges that he needed to overcome.

The latest allegations against Elon are that he sexually molested another young man after his 2013 conviction when he was trying to rehabilitate his public image and had begun teaching again and receiving people in private for consultation.

Dan says that this was the final straw for him as he saw those who had refused to condemn, censure and cast out Elon as having failed in their duty to protect the community.

One such figure was Rabbi Haim Druckman, perhaps the most senior and influential rabbinic figure in the National-Religious community, who publicly backed Elon after his conviction, telling the media that the judge had made a mistake in convicting the rabbi.

Druckman said that Elon should not be invalidated as a teacher and invited Elon to deliver lectures at his flagship yeshiva Ohr Etzion in Merkaz Shapira, close to Ashdod, where Druckman lives and serves as rabbi of the town.

The most recent complainant revealed audio and video footage of the assault to three rabbis, including Druckman, and the three instructed Elon to cease his public activities and seek professional help.

Druckman has yet to make any public comment on the affair or apologize for having publicly supported Elon after his conviction in 2013.

“There are rabbis who think they know everything, and rabbis who make mistakes,” Dan told The Jerusalem Post.

  1. Is that why Drukman conversions were invalidated?

  2. It pains me deeply to read this smear on Rabbi Druckman. I know him for years. I have and read his books. My shul in Bnei Brak gives Torah of Rabbi Druckman and Rabbi Goren, z”l, almost every Shabbat... What can one do? We have free press in Israel to publish any garbage. Anyway I’m not on the decision list released today at NYS Court of Appeals. Next release date is January 15, 2019. When I made Aliyah in 1991 without Susan they told me to speak to Rabbi Goren...

  3. Did you meet Rav Goren? Tell us the story.

R' Druckman was involved in several cover ups of abuse, including at mercaz harav, and netiv Meir.

Yehoshua says “What, exactly, is the "smear" here? What facts are you contesting?”

    Daf hayomi last Friday:
    Chullin 43a
“R. Isaac son of R. Joseph further said in the name of R. Johanan: What was the reply of the colleagues of R. Jose son of R. Judah? [They said: It is written,] God hands me over to an evil man, Thrusts me into the clutches of the wicked. I had been untroubled, and He broke me in pieces; He took me by the scruff and shattered me; He set me up as His target; His bowmen surrounded me; He pierced my kidneys; He showed no mercy; He spilled my bile onto the ground. He breached me, breach after breach; He rushed at me like a warrior. I sewed sackcloth over my skin; I buried my glory [lit. made my horn enter into] in the dust. My face is red with weeping; Darkness covers my eyes For no injustice on my part And for the purity of my prayer! [or Though I did no injustice, And my prayer was pure].” (Job 16:11-17). Nevertheless Job continued to live! He retorted: You may not quote miraculous deeds [in support of an argument]. Otherwise you might as well ask, it is written: He cleaveth my reins asunder and doth not spare [Job 16:13]; could he then continue to live on? You must therefore admit that a miracle is an exceptional case; [and the whole treatment of Job was miraculous] for it is written: “So the Lord said to the Adversary השטן, See, he is in your power; only spare his life.” (Job 2:6), [The afflictions of Job were such as in ordinary cases would prove fatal but in his case it was ordained that, whatever sufferings befall him, his life was to be spared] and so here [with reference to the gall] a miracle is an exceptional case.”

We pray “My eyes are wasted by vexation, worn out because of all my foes. Away from me, all you evildoers, for the Lord heeds the sound of my weeping. The Lord heeds my plea, the Lord accepts my prayer. All my enemies will be frustrated and stricken
with terror; they will turn back in an instant, frustrated.” (Psalms 6:8-11).

God, at times, hands the righteous to the Adversary השטן. We should not lessen our respect for Rabbi Druckman.

  7. Kalonymus Anonymus says “In this case, druckman is consistently protecting the devil.”

Dear friend, Kalonymus Anonymus, who is consistently protecting Satan the Accuser השטן ?

“He further showed me Joshua, the high priest, standing before the angel of the Lord, and the Accuser והשטן [others Satan] standing at his right to accuse him. But [the angel of] the Lord said to the Accuser השטן, The Lord rebuke you, O Accuser השטו; may the Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! For this is a brand plucked from the fire [Joshua’s father (Hag. 1.1; 1 Chron. 5.40–41) was exiled and his grandfather executed (2 Kings 25.18–21) by the Babylonians, but Joshua returned.].” (Zachariah 3:1-2)

“In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, this word of the
Lord came through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, the governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest” (Haggai 1:1).
“Azariah begot Seraiah, Seraiah begot Jehozadak; and Jehozadak went into exile when the Lord exiled Judah and Jerusalem by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar.” (1 Chronicles 5:40-41).
“The chief of the guards also took Seraiah, the chief priest, Zephaniah, the deputy priest,
and the three guardians of the threshold. And from the city he took a eunuch who was in command of the soldiers; five royal privy councilors who were present in the city; the scribe of the army commander, who was in charge of mustering the people of the land; and sixty of the common people who were inside the city. Nebuzaradan, the chief of the guards, took them and brought them to the king of Babylon at Riblah. The king of Babylon had them struck down and put to death at Riblah, in the region of Hamath.
Thus Judah was exiled from its land.” (2 Kings 25:18-21).

Hertz Chumash (this is my bar-mitzvah haftorah...):
“Satan, השטן, one who opposes with false accusations. Satan accuses Joshua and the people of sinfulness, and that they are, therefore, unworthy to rebuild the temple. Perhaps a similar feeling arising out of their disappointments, depressed the people. But Satan is rebuked; and the return exiles assured that their fears are groundless.”

Hertz writes earlier: Zachariah was one of the exiles who returned from Babylon when Cyrus promoted his decree of restoration in the year 537. He began his prophecies around 17 years afterwards. Disastrous seasons and the hostility of neighbors had discouraged the people, and all operations in connection with rebuilding the Temple had long ceased. At this juncture the Prophet Zachariah appears, rouses the people from their despondency and assures them of the Divine assistance in their work of rebuilding the Temple and of national rehabilitation.”

    Satan is a cynic/troll
Cynic = a person who believes that people are motivated purely by self-interest rather than acting for honorable or unselfish reasons.
"some cynics thought that the controversy was all a publicity stunt"
Troll = In Internet slang, a troll is a person who starts quarrels or upsets people on the Internet to distract and sow discord by posting inflammatory and digressive, extraneous, or off-topic messages

No. Rabbi Druckman is not ever protecting the devil. Rather Rabbi Druckman (a little like the Prophet Zachariah ?) tries to assure us with Torah teachings when we face such extreme hostility from our neighbors and from the International and local progressive left...

  9. Yehoshua says What, exactly, is the "smear" here? What facts are you contesting?
    Smear =
damage the reputation of (someone) by false accusations; slander.
"someone was trying to smear her by faking letters"

Wow did you defend here the smear campaign against Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh got senate approval despite all your efforts. There were no facts for Kavanaugh to contest. See, a smear campaign doesn’t rely on facts—just on hatred... This Jpost article and your support of it is a smear against “Rabbi Haim Druckman, perhaps the most senior and influential rabbinic figure in the National-Religious community,.” You and Kalonymus Anonymus are trolls and cynics, behaving like Satan:.

“One day the divine beings presented themselves before the Lord, and the Adversary השטן came along with them. The Lord said to the Adversary, Where have you been? The Adversary השטן answered the Lord, I have been roaming all over the earth. The Lord said to the Adversary השטן, Have you noticed My servant Job? There is no one like him on earth, a blameless and upright man who fears God and shuns evil! The Adversary השטן answered the Lord, Does Job not have good reason to fear God? Why, it is You who have fenced him round, him and his household and all that he has. You have blessed his efforts so that his possessions spread out in the land. But lay Your hand upon all that he has and he will surely blaspheme You to Your face. The Lord replied to the Adversary, See, all that he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on him. The Adversary departed
from the presence of the Lord.” (Job 1:6-12).

See, Satan was wrong to imply that Job feared God for the good reason that God blessed Job and his family so much. Satan was wrong that if God laid his hand upon Job, then Job would curse-out God saying God is a motherfu... Satan was a cynic and a troll. So it seems from the plain text of Job... No. Job would never curse out God...

  11. They were invalidated because his "greater truth" took precedence over actual truth, and his conversions were based upon his greater truth rather that the actual truth - the halacha.

This blog has meticulously documented and dealt with many cases of where people decided that their greater truth was more important that the actual truth. Interestingly, now the blog owner has turned himself into such an exhibit. Because he considers the president of the United States to be dangerous to the "greater good" of this country (and his liberal sensitivities), he has sacrificed the actual truth for his "greater truth" on numerous occasions.

  14. Good Doctor Eidensohn,

Your response makes my point much better than I myself made it. I made a comment about you sacrificing the actual truth for what you consider to be a "greater good" and you therefore consider it to be a "greater truth". As has happened so many times with you on this one, you did not address this. Instead, you pretended as if I'm commenting about worshipping the president. Additionally, you did chose to acknowledge something that I said - but I said it parenthetically. But even that point is not a conversation that you are willing to have.

  16. Torah thought on בשלח
    Midrash Rabbah - Genesis LVII:4

“R. Jose b. Halafta said: He was born when they went down into Egypt, and died when they went up out of Egypt. You will find that in essence his life's span was two hundred and ten years, while Israel spent two hundred and ten years in Egypt. Now when Satan came to denounce [Israel], He [God] incited him against Job [instead]. R. Hanina, the son of Aha, and R. Hama, the son of R. Hanina, discussed this. R. Hanina, the son of Aha, said: It may be compared to a shepherd who stood watching his flocks, when a wolf came to attack him, whereupon he ordered: Throw him a he-goat on which to vent his rage. R. Hama b. R. Hanina said: It may be compared to a king sitting at his meal when a dog came and attacked him, whereupon he ordered, Give him a bone to worry. Thus it is written, “God hands me over to an evil man, Thrusts me into the clutches of the wicked. (Job 16:11) and would that the people were righteous, but they are indeed wicked! [This apparently means: If the people had been righteous, God need not have incited Satan against me.]”

    איוב פרק טז פסוק יא
    יַסְגִּירֵנִי אֵל אֶל עֲוִיל וְעַל יְדֵי רְשָׁעִים יִרְטֵנִי:

See, when Joseph and the brothers died, many became secular, impressed with the wisdom/astrology etc of Egypt. God purposely distracted the Adversay השטן “R. Hanina, the son of Aha, said: It may be compared to a shepherd who stood watching his flocks, when a wolf came to attack him, whereupon he ordered: Throw him a he-goat on which to vent his rage.”
“After the Lord had spoken these words to Job, the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite, I
am incensed at you and your two friends, for you have not spoken the truth about Me as did My servant Job. Now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to My servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. And let Job, My servant, pray for you; for to him I will show favor and not treat you vilely, since you have not spoken the truth about Me as did My servant Job. Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went and did as the Lord had told them, and the Lord showed favor to Job. The Lord restored Job’s fortunes when he prayed on behalf of his friends, and the Lord gave Job twice what he had before. All his brothers and sisters and all his former friends came to him and had a meal with him in his house. They consoled and comforted him
for all the misfortune that the Lord had brought upon him. Each gave him one kesitah קשיטה and each one gold ring.” (Job 42:7-11).

Interesting “The parcel of land where he pitched his tent he [Jacob] purchased from the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for a hundred kesitahs במאה קשיטה.” (Genesis 33:19).

To put it mildly, I am incensed to read the attacks against Rav (Rabbi) Drukman by two fellow Jews and Bnei Akiva members, and by something called the Freidberg Foundation... Rav Drukman did everything possible to police Rav Alon's activities while in Rav Drukman's jurisdiction, and pinning blame on Rav Drukman for the recent offenses is, simply, self-righteous defamation of the Rav. Now the Freidberg Foundation is halting funds for Rav Drukman's conversion programs "until he apologizes for having backed " Rav Alon. Wonderful: hit those poor Russian immigrants who need conversion, in order to "punish" Rav Drukman for lending a hand to a drowning man - who obviously needs psychiatric care, not condemnations.”
