Trump's lies again! Tells Sheriff's group that the murder rate in U.S. is the highest in 47 years

President Trump met Tuesday morning with a group of sheriffs from the National Sheriffs Association, a group that consists of more than 3,000 sheriffs from around the country. And to this sworn group of law enforcement veterans, with reporters taking notes, he again repeated a falsehood about the murder rate in America.

Trump told the sheriffs, “the murder rate in our country is the highest it’s been in 47 years.” He blamed the news media for not publicizing this development, then added, “But the murder rate is the highest it’s been in, I guess, 45 to 47 years.”

The country’s murder rate is not the highest it’s been in 47 years. It is almost at its lowest point, actually, according to the FBI, which gathers statistics every year from police departments around the country.

The murder rate is defined as the number of murders and non-negligent homicides per 100,000 residents. Beginning in 1957, when the rate was 4.0 murders per 100,000 residents, the rate rose steadily to a high of 10.2 in 1980. It then steadily dropped, to 7.4 in 1996, to 6.1 in 2006, to 4.4 in 2014. It went up in 2015 to 4.9. But that is less than half the murder rate of 1980, while the population has risen from 226 million in 1980 to 321 million in 2015.[...]

  2. Unbelievable. Trump calls into our question our belief in Chazal, who said that people do not lie in a מילתא דעבידא לגלויי!

  3. The graphs in the article you posted show tha he is lying, as murder rates dropped in the last 8 years.

    ReplyDelete
  4. That article is about a different claim he made. The article is about an increase in the murder rate. This claim is about the murder rate. There was a sharp increase in 2015, but the murder rate is still very low by historical standards.

  6. He didn't say "the murder rate in our country is the highest it’s been in 47 years." That was the interpretaion. What he did say was "de murder rate in our country is de highest it’s been in 4 de 7 years."

  10. Right. Illustrating Mr. Trump was simply playing his standard game. Take a statistic or "fact", mangle it to his advantage, and let it loose on the public and media.

I say this is a calculated tactic. Rabbi Eidensohn disagrees.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Please tell me what the calculated tactic is. You make a false statement - at a conference of Sheriffs and assume nobody will check it out. To make it even more seicheldic you use a statement from the election campaign which has already been shown to be false.

What is Trump's big reward for making false statements repeatedly and getting caught repeatedly for making false statements. If that is a well thought out tactic then the only conclusion is that Trump is self destructive and has a need to make a fool of himself.

But since you think this is a cunning tactic - please tell us what Trump gets from being liar?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Well...a lot of people would like to be POTUS. A lot of people spent, collectively, hundreds of millions of dollars to run for President. Mr. Trump muscled them out of the way, or just plain clobbered them. He did it with a mix of bravado, style, deceit, and Mazal. And not a little bit of moxie. And lots of money from his personal fortune.

So, something he's doing is working. I think part of that is his ability to keep the cameras and blogs focused on himself.

    He exhibits these qualities perfectly:
"President is very much a figurehead - he wields no real power whatsoever. He is apparently chosen by the government, but the qualities he is required to display are not those of leadership but those of finely judged outrage. For this reason the President is always a controversial choice, always an infuriating but fascinating character. His job is not to wield power but to draw attention away from it."
    http://hhgproject.org/entries/president.html

In other words, the media is out to make money. They built Trump up as an Agent 007 flying above everyone and the subject of every conversation. They continue to revel in his ability to keep people's attention on him, and thus bring in the big advertising bucks for the media.

To put it simply, Pres. Trump is a blast. As Alsous Huxley pointed out (quoted in a previous comment) many people are seeking distractions, not substantial change or truth, or any other highfalutin ideals. Mr. Trump thus embodies the zeitgeist of this age.

  14. I was surprised that this lie doesn't seem to have been mentioned in the New York Times. (So much for the "biased, lying media.") One slight correction: Since the murder rate is, as you state, a per capita figure, the increase in population is irrelevant.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hillary was the winner in that contest by pushing the anti Muslim video lie in Benghazi and smearing all across the country when she told her daughter that night that it was a terrorist attack. She pushed that lie all across the united states for days on all major new media.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don't agree. I think that Trump just does not understand the difference between "increase" and "rate," just as he has demonstrated a limited ability to grasp anything other than his own poll numbers, if that.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Lately I hadn't seen too much "Daas Torah" on your blog. Posting anti Trump articles from various liberal rags is hardly a Daas Torah. You should stick to the real Daas Torah: - Kamenezky bashing.

    ReplyDelete
  18. "a blast" - you enjoy Trump acting like an idiot while getting a lot of negative attention?!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Cut it out already. That was corrected soon after the incident.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Negative attention?(!). No, sir. Mr. Trump has painted the "mainstream" media as "fake news". The more the media beats Mr. Trump the more he wins with the Masses. Like Pharoah oppression. The more oppression, the more increase.

    ReplyDelete
  21. In other words you view the Masses as ignorant morons and that the only way Trump can relate to them is to lie and misrepresent the truth?! That he needs to discredit the media because it keeps insisting that facts have to be true?! You consider this to be desirable?!

I thought you were Trump's supporter? This is the most devastating critique possible.

    ReplyDelete
  22. There is a greater truth here, beyond the lies. The goal of some of those who support Mr. Trump is to do a "take down" of much of the media and the entrenched political class. As one philosopher of this new movement put it, there was a need to rush the cockpit, so to speak. Now, Mr. Trump may not be a trained pilot, but for sure the alternative was stay on a trajectory toward an untoward impact. Confer the link I posted in another comment in this thread.

To do a Bi'yur Chametz of the arrogance in the media and ruling class. Drain the swamp, if you will.

    ReplyDelete
  29. When and where did he apologize.

Unfortunately, I can't find a reference to her recent comments indicating that the movie was still a possibility but your claim that it was immediately stopped is incorrect as indicated in the sources that I provided.

  30. Trump's base is so angry at the 'elite' that they enjoy any attack no matter how obviously false. Example: Trump quotes from and support6s the bizarre fantasies of Alex Jones who claims. for example, that the Newtown massacre was faked.

  31. Unfortunately, the masses are ignorant, kept there by forces such as Fox News. In the Orthodox community they are encouraged to believe that the New York Times is anti-semitic and always, deliberately, wrong. This is of course, undesirable. Evil is undesirable. But evil people thrive on it.

Look up your claim of Obama's so called apology about you can keep your doctor and you will see that it was a justification and not an apology.

One of the main reasons that Hillary lost was the perception by everyone that she was a world class liar that no one could compete with. How about her Bosnia lie about being under fire?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Here's a quote from his so called apology

"Most of the folks who ... got these cancellation letters, they'll be able to get better care at the same cost or cheaper in these new marketplaces," Obama said, also noting that "we have to make sure" people do not feel as if they've been betrayed by an effort carried out with their best interests in mind.

"They'll have more choice, they'll have more competition. They're part of a bigger pool. The insurance companies are going to be hungry for their business. So the majority of folks will end up being better off," he said.

Just justifying his lies and pushing further lies.

    ReplyDelete
  42. why don't you place the therm side by side and in separate columns put down the lies as well as how serious they are and if they were ever acknowledged. There is no question that Trump is the leader in all categories as well as producing the greatest quantity. In addition Trump is the only one that lies and repeats the lies - even when there is no benefit to him. I can understand be a liar when there is something accomplished - but Trump lies because he insists that the facts must follow his beliefs - even when the rest of the world disagrees.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  46. First of all, he is 100% correct, the majority are better off. Second of all, go ahead, selectively quote. Here is another part:
"There is no doubt that the way I put that forward unequivocally ended up not being accurate. It was not because of my intention not to deliver on that commitment and that promise. We put a grandfather clause into the law, but it was insufficient."

    ReplyDelete
  47. I am starting to run out of patience here. The issue is not whether politicians lie (they do), or whether at times Hillary Clinton lied (she did). The issue is that Trump has absolutely no regard for the truth, and repeatedly makes claims that have been proven false, and repeatedly makes claims that have no basis in fact.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Do you even bother to read the articles you link to, or are you just hoping that people will say "He posted 4 links so he must be right"? Your first article brings no statements of Clinton from more than one month after the attack. The Politifact article does not state that she blamed the attack on the video beyond the initial days. I did not bother with the other two.

That is blasphemy (Kafiroh)!! And just shows how much your value system has been warped by goyische shtut.

I recommend (for your own good) that you read the entire 3rd part of moreh nevuchim to restore your Jewish soul.

  51. Progressive, Leftist truth etc. as follows;

Forcefully prevent anyone that disagrees with you from speaking by violence such as that exhibited at Berkely. Attack those that disagree with you with flagpoles and destroy innocent peoples buildings and businesses.

Don't allow people to defend themselves against terrorists by overly inflating the harm to a few minorly inconvenienced individuals. Free dangerous criminal aliens that have committed murder and allow people to come into the country with incurable diseases because of mercy to them and ignore the damage to the population at large. The torah says habo lehorgecho haskeim lehorgo which the progressives don't care about.

Provide rights for a tiny minority of mentally and physically deranged transsexuals and force immorality on the public at large.

Violently protest and disrupt democracy in any unlimited way possible by not allowing the duly elected leader of the country to rule peacefully.

Ignore those that hate Israel and support them and oppose those that favor Israel.

These are just a few small examples.

Your acceptance of the warped an evil philosophy of the Left is the greatest evil and kfira and shows that you need to learn and adopt the basics of Judaism as accepted by all yirei shomaim for dorei doros.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Your comment is insane. Do you profess to follow the totally atheistic and anti logic approach of the progressives and Leftists of the world?

I am not espousing anything that Bannon said and especially not Huff and Puff and Independent of reason's interpretation of what he said.

I see that the current Leftist ideology as expressed by the majority of its unhinged followers is atheistic, anti American and dangerous to normal decent society.

How do you justify the violent protests that block ambulances? How do you justify the overly aggressive LBTGQxyz agenda being forced down the throats of religious people of all denomination? Are you a fan of Planned non Parenthood infanticide?

I believe in normal self defense laws and awareness of the truth of the danger of Islam. I also am against LBGT being forced on the religious public. I am against abortion except in cases that the Torah would allow such as danger to the life of the mother.

This bizarre insistence that Trump is the solution - no matter what he does and anyone who disagrees is crazy and immoral - is the root of the problem and is what I personally find to be so frightening.

    ReplyDelete
  55. True, and once again: What is your point? I have never denied that Democratic politicians have stated things that were not true. What I am stating is that there has never been, or at least has not been in decades, a politician on the national level who has repeatedly dug in stated the same lies over and over again after they have been contradicted by publicly-known data, in the manner that Trump does.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Your comment proves my point. You cannot find in any of my posts or those of others who disagree with Trump/Bannon's character/policies on this blog that fit your strawman description. In fact I challenge you to present any thing I have said that is anti-Torah, unless of course you think disagreeing with the goyische de'ot of Trump/Bannon is anti-Torah?!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Contrary to your contention, Bannon/Trump and htheir supporters are not championing a Torah-based society.

BTW: Why are you so bothered by LGBT and abortion issues, while being apparently tolerant of sexual promiscuity?.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Are you aware of the fact that the vast majority of Planned Parenthood's work has nothing to do with abortion?
Are you aware of the fact that many Republicans espouse a position on abortion that would not allow abortion even in cases where halacha allows it?

    ReplyDelete
  59. You put forth a comically uninformed and exaggerated view of what the Left holds. In addition, "the Left" is not one monolithic entity. One can ascribe to some causes of the Left without agreeing with all of their causes, or all of their tactics.

The reason that portions of America and Europe insanely want unvetted immigrants is because marriage is dead in these countries and the reproduction rate is not enough to maintain the current population. There is a need for people and the base population is no longer providing it.

  72. I've run into the same problem as well. This fellow has a hard time keeping on point.

This is just a speculative terutz, as I don't know him personally, but pashtus seems to be that these questions are for him less meat for analysis than fodder for emotional response. Hence his 'natural' association to matters that evoke similar responses from him.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I think that even all that you just list, DT, surprising though it be, can be set aside. In other words, if all that were true and by some miracle or mechanism (e.g., a Dick-Cheney-figure) governance actually took place credibly, effectively, & with some surety, then all that would just amount to an embarrassment and no more (e.g. again, as GWB was).

The root problem with Trump is that he continually makes himself felt in actions that are divisive and thus rather destructive to the country he purports to lead. Already with so little time in office he's precipitating more than one constitutional crisis.
(Most recently: this whole matter with the 9th Circuit court. See Miller's recent comments on Fox to Chris Wallace defending, chiddush niflaoh, Trump's Twitter insults toward the Federal "so-called" judge, blaming him for fantasized national security threats -- Tweets that have resulted in death threats against said judge. The White House is defending that. So who's trampling on whose turf here? Tug-of-war time!!)
When was the last time you remember such jurisdictional questions arising so starkly & so often? A couple cropping up over Nixon's entire 5-yr tenure, perhaps? And he is remembered with some measure of shame. Yet this Administration makes me long for their level of competence.

I pray that DeVos, the court appointees, & this unusual Exxon fellow Tillerson offset for us some of this chaotic mess.

  74. FoL has already made it clear that any info promulgated by NPR is de facto false. In his lexicon, to be left-of-center = to be a wanton fabricator at war with all truth. Apparently under this conception all those employed at any leftist organization -- which also somehow seems to amount to meaning most organizations, stam -- magically morph into pathological liars. So unless you can find these facts reproduced on Alex Jones, Debbie Schlussel, or some such online outlet, will fall on deaf ears. Even better, search DJT's Twitter feed. In FoL-Newspeak, they collectively all lie as districts of "Intregityland."

    ReplyDelete
  76. It would be nice if you actually read what you're falsely commenting on because the first reference explicitly says that they can't be vetted.

Here is a quote from the second article that you blithely dismiss for no reason

"But hacked emails released by Wikileaks show Clinton thinks vetting Syrian refugees is “impossible.” Michael Patrick Leahy reports that Clinton acknowledged this reality for refugees pouring into Jordan.

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper already admitted that the U.S. cannot vet these refugees, so this may be an instance of Clinton telling the public a different position than you take in private"

Clapper clearly indicates that the US has the same problem..

    ReplyDelete
  77. If so, why did the Obama administration release them to the public? Here an Obama administration official admits that they did this just that the numbers were lower than previous years. This is what you call vetted? This is what sanctuary (for criminals and murderers) cities were invented for.

  80. Your comment makes no sense. You and Prof. Kevin MacDonald are on the right and, based on your posts, even share many common opinions, but as a Torah believing Jew I am sure you do not agree with him in everything?! In much the same way there are certain policies of the left that I think are a priority and even crucial for me and my community, but my Torah hashkafa means I cannot support everything on the left. Is that so hard to understand?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Read the histories of Trump, Bannon and Milo Yiannopoulos, all darlings of the right, and then comeback and tell me that you do not tolerate sexual promiscuity. Bottomline anyone on the right or left that is not in some way connected to the Torah tradition or an ascetic tradition will more likely than not be sexually liberal. As our sages say (paraphrasing): Man desires food, theft and gilui arayot. Therefore, I am more interested in the respect of individual rights, irrespective of religious/ethnic/culturla background, and the rule of law (ein Rechtsstaat).

Bottomline, the secular government in a multi-cultural democracy should focus on improving "bein adam lachavero" and stay out of "bein adam lamakom". The latter is the job of the local community and family.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Now that you have established that your standard of truth is determined by Alex Jones, who believes, among other nonsense, that the Sandy Hook Massacre was done by the U.S. government, I no longer feel the need to respond to any of your claims concerning reality.
