Kellyanne Conway seems to be confused. On Thursday night the Trump adviser appeared in a TV interview and made a statement that pricked the ears of fact-checkers everywhere.
She told MSNBC's Chris Matthews:
"I bet it's brand new information to people that President Obama had a 6-month ban on the Iraqi refugee program after two Iraqis came here to this country, were radicalized and they were the masterminds behind the Bowling Green massacre. It didn't get covered."
First of all, Obama didn't ban the Iraqi refugee program.
Second, there's no such thing as the Bowling Green massacre.
Conway could have been referencing two Iraqis -- Waad Ramadan Alwan and Mohanad Shareef Hammadi -- who lived in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Both were granted refugee status and entered the United States in 2009.
They were arrested in May 2011 on a series of terrorism charges and were sentenced two years later after pleading guilty.
The two men were never planning on committing an act of terrorism on US soil. Instead, they were trying to help get weapons to al Qaeda in Iraq. They were terrorists who should not have been allowed in the country, but they weren't planning an attack in the United States. And they didn't kill anyone in Bowling Green (or anywhere else in the US).[...]
An indictment released at the time said the United States was able to locate Alwan's fingerprints on an IED and on the base of a cordless phone used in an attack near Bayji, Iraq in the early 2000s. That the vetting process didn't work and that these men were allowed into the country highlighted serious flaws in the refugee resettlement system and led to reforms of the vetting process.
As a result, Obama ordered that 57,000-58,000 Iraqi refugees recently allowed into the country be revetted, causing a massive backlog. So, while there was no specific 'ban' on Iraqi refugees coming into the country, there was a delay in allowing anymore in. [...]

While that article certainly is troubling, and work is needed to shore up the system, it has nothing to do with what Trump is claiming. This is like when investigators sneak weapons past TSA agents. That does not mean that airplanes were hijacked, just that the TSA needs better procedures. Trump made a specific claim, that 3 million plus fraudulent votes were cast for Clinton. Beside for the fact that it would be remarkably dumb for these brilliant conspirators to have all those votes cast in California and New York, where she was going to win in any case, there is no evidence supporting his claim. And after the noise he made about appointing people to investigate voter fraud, he seems to have forgotten about that. Perhaps he realized that he would rather not know the truth, and remain with his alternative facts.

Trump's lawyers claimed there was no serious voter fraud when trying to stop the Stein recount.
Trump claimed before the election that unless he won it was proof of illegal voting. But since he won there wasn't illegal voting. However in spite of that there was 3 million illegal votes for Clinton. This is supposed to be an intelligent rational man?!
The article makes no mention of proof that actual fraud took place - but only that it might have. Thus if it did take place then it might have been predominately Trump supporters who voted illegally.
You can't go from a possibility of fraud to Trump's position.
You can't go from Trump's claim there there was no significant voter fraud and at the same time claim there was 3 million illegal votes.
Trump is not concerned finding the truth - he is only concerned with controlling what people think is true and that is primarily erasing anything which doesn't build his ego
Bottom line - let's have a recount and risk the possibility that Trump actually lost the election. Trump will never allow that to happen.

The system of democracy here practically invites skilled liers like Pres. William Clinton and Pres. Donald Trump to run. This blog, I think, would better serve the public by attacking the system of democracy in the U.S., as opposed to attacking those who game the system.

ReplyDeleteMy point is that the very fiber of democracy, that the citizens elect their political representatives, has been under attack for quite some time. This is part of the reason we have a President Trump. Unless this is tackled correctly, it will continue to be either whacky leftists or people similar to Trump who will be in power.
In fact, when the media and politicians becomes all sanctimonious about WORDS that someone used, but they don't care and they even cover up real voting fraud, they are guaranteeing more Trump-types in power. Making fantastical claims that irrelevant words affect the integrity of elections, but that real fraud, and admitted potential for it is somehow less worthy of discussion, is part of why the democratic party lost about 900 seats through all levels of government, during the past 6 years.
And about the popular vote - what relevance does it have? The rules that this country has makes it moot. Why are we focusing on words in lieu of actual facts? Fact: The president of the USA is Donald Trump. Are all these attacks intended on fooling people into thinking otherwise? Is it any different than over 30 media personalities comparing President GW Bush to Hitler?

I prefer a Supreme Court justice that will not turn the SC into another way for the left to impose their will on this country. Every decent conservative candidate is continuously unjustifiably destroyed. Then there is fraud. I think that in the big picture, that is a lot worse than a President Trump, who will reverse some of the leftists gains, and will certainly stop their ascent.

You have chosen not to understand what I wrote. Why can't you understand that it is not about Trump? Trump, with all his imperfection, is the man who is still standing, so the rally is around him. You keep on ignoring actual laws and issues that most Americans support or oppose, and you are turning into a personality thing. Obama was elected because of his persona and personality, despite the actual laws and he polices he advanced. The result was a 1,000+ loss of legislators for his party. Trump's persona and personality is what allowed him to fight off the actual, very real voter fraud, fake news etc and be the last man standing. As the last man standing, his POLICIES and LAWS are supported despite his personality.

And the second clearly overstates things in drawing a bald analogy between the eight counties it purports to report on & the rest of the country. (This ignores the fact that the Tea Party study torpedoes its own credibility -- that is, even discounting the agenda of its authorship -- by quickly accusing the Virginia State government of a coverup. The State's reticience to publish its research accusing people by name of a felony, for which those named remain unconvicted by a court of law, is hardly stuff to scratch one's head over, so I think you get the idea of the report's general tenor.
