בס״דWe have followed the case of Beth Alexander for some time and have had the opportunity to hear from her about the dreadful and unnecessary pain that she has suffered following her divorce. In the initial stages of Beth’s separation, her husband was evicted by the police after allegations that he had been violent. The Austrian court only allowed him restricted and supervised access to his children.
Yet many of us have followed the Kafkaesque decisions made by subsequent courts which have granted full custody to Beth’s ex-husband with only limited visiting rights. Beth is naturally distraught over the lack of care being given to her children. They are looked after by paid help who speak little German or English.
Beth is also concerned for the health of her children, especially after dental procedures were performed without her knowledge to remove teeth from both of the boys. What is more perverse is that on top of the injustice in denying Beth’s children proper access to their mother, Beth has had to pay up to 50EUR for each 2-minute handover, failing which, she would have been unable to see her children. This is in addition to the child maintenance she must pay as mandated by the court.
To add insult to injury, Beth finds that the Austrian Jewish community and certain members of the Austrian rabbinate have largely shunned her. She has been told by individuals in the community to keep quiet or go back to England and forget about her children. While we recognise that the court’s decisions must be respected, we are profoundly disappointed that the Austrian Jewish community and leadership have not adequately supported a vulnerable and defenceless young woman, who has been thrust into this intolerable situation against her will.
We are also deeply concerned that Dr. Schlesinger has been given opportunities to make life easier for Beth and the children, and yet appears to have deliberately ignored them. This gives the impression that his children are merely pawns in a spiteful game to make life for Beth a living hell. We therefore request that Dr. Schlesinger takes the following steps to alleviate Beth’s situation for the sake of Sammy and Benji.
• To accept the offer of a simple and inexpensive handover of the children, coordinated by the Chief Rabbi of Austria or others within the community.
• To comply with the Court’s access orders in full.
• To stop cancelling access visits to Beth in defiance of the courts.
• To accept the generous offer of Rabbi Hofmeister to host Beth and the boys for one Shabbat meal a month with immediate effect.We wish to send the strongest message possible to Dr. Schlesinger that his behaviour is a disgrace and our patience has run out.
Beth Alexander is a warm, kind-natured and generous person who deserves to play a full and active role in bringing up her children. We hope and pray that the natural maternal love that she has for them will ultimately break through the effects of this disgraceful injustice that she and her children have been forced to endure.
We therefore join the Chief Rabbi, Ephraim Mirvis and our other colleagues who are working to help address the best interests of Beth and her children, and call upon other rabbonim and communal leaders to join us in our endeavours.

This is fantastic that so many Rabbis in the UK, backed by the Chief Rabbi, see the injustices being done to Beth and her children.
ReplyDeleteThe Austrian Jewish community and its leaders Oscar Deutsch, Ariel Musikant Chief Rabbi Eisenberg, to name a few, should not be welcome in the UK until they take some responsibility and help the situation. No leaders should allow a person in their community to get away with such disgusting behaviour!
No one should have dealings with, or allow their children to marry into such a hostile community!
The Rabbis who signed this very powerful letter are demonstrating the humanity and sensitivity required to be a true Jewish leader and should be applauded. ReplyDeleteThe Rabbis in Vienna on the other hand, are only too happy to encourage violence, abuse and persecution of their own Jewish brothers and sisters (Beth and the twins). They are clearly more aligned to the lifestyle of Eisav and should not be regarded as Rabbanim.
There used to be a commentator on this blogsite under the name "Avi Noffers" who, by his own admission, had inside knowledge of the Schlesinger case. One of his main attempts to discredit this innocent mother was to claim she had no Rabbinic support. Given that this has now been completely crushed, and noticing that Mr Schlesinger has had zero public Rabbinic support even from his beloved Rabbi Josef Pardes, it is hardly surprising Avi Noffers has disappeared back underneath the rock he came from.

ReplyDeleteI don't know. What I do know is that anyone would be disinclined to grant concessions to someone waging a massive public relations war against him. So my question was if he'd agree to her four demands (listed in the essay above) regarding granting her visitation, if she'd agree to completely terminate her P.R. campaign in return.

ReplyDeleteBeth is interested in a fair settlement including that which is in the best interest of her children. Anyone who has read through the information on this case readily sees that Dr. Schlesinger is not acting in the best interest of either fairness or his children.
I could completely support Beth. But she must be pragmatic. He holds all the cards. He won in court, even if unfairly, on all levels up to the Supreme Court. She's out of appeal options. That may be sad but it is also the reality. She'll have to come to terms with him to better the lot for the children and visitation rights for herself. She's already engaged a PR campaign for years and years without results, just looking through this sites archives. The reality is she must convince him to agree to better terms for her, as the above letter tries to persuade him. And my suggestion (just a suggetion) is one way that might convince him to agree is for her to agree to forgo the public campaign in return.

ReplyDeleteBecause Mr. Schlesinger isn't listening. So I could start telling him what to do and he'll continue ignoring. And Beth will continue being limited in her visitation. And she'll continue her PR campaign for another 10 years till the kids are 18 and completely brainwashed against her by having not seen much of her. The upside is that at least you'll be able to rip into the rabbis for another 10 years. Because "they are deserving of the criticism". And how dare we not dole out, measure-for-measure, every ounce of criticism they deserve.

ReplyDeleteYour "pragmantic" solution has been suggested a number of times. Dr. Schlesinger is not interested in negotiations or mediation. He is well aware of what goes is put on this blog and the suggestion has been made a number of times already.
In sum, Dr. Schlesinger is not acting in the best interests of the Twins or fairness or reasonableness. His number one goal is to torment Beth.
You don't need to be a doctor -or a psychiatrist to understand that they are doing poorly because of his lack of concern for his children. You don't need to have an IQ over 50 to understand that the Twins would flourish with more time and attention with their mother.

I'm glad to hear shes gotten significantly more access to her kids. How much more access to the kids has she gotten, when did this change and what prompted its implementation?
@David - the issue has been raised a number of times over the time that I have been covering the case. So it has been discussed - I think the last time was about 2 to 3 months ago.

ReplyDeleteWasn't she gagged despite it being against he human rights which entitleds us all to freedom of speech.
Beth has thousands of supporters including many in high places as we are seeing. . The UK Rabbis wrote this letter, not Beth.
We are talking about the health, welfare, education and future of the children, which the father seems to care nothing about. He only wants to spite Beth and does not care about the happiness of the children who clearly adore her.
Why does Dr Sclesinger feel he holds the
cards? Is it at his children's expense?

I would be highly surprised if Mr Schlesinger would agree to any form of fair mediation, but if this is indeed the case, we need to know so that we can proceed accordingly on this blog.
What I find very akward, is the fact, that all those rabbis, who don't have any real insight into the case and have never had a chance to speak to Mr. Schlesinger personally, are all ready to condemn him. This is simply against the halacha. I simply cannot believe, that a mother, who has lost all instances up to the high court, is really that innocent in the outcome of the ruling. If she were a man, no one would ever give it any after thought. She can tell us what ever she wants.

@Dave what I find very awkward is that fact that you have no real insight into this case. You have not seen the court documents. You have not met or talked with the people involved - and yet you readily pass judgment. Dr. Schlesinger has decided not to say anything - outside of court. The court record is embarrassing and I have not figured out any justification for the bizarre reversal of roles that the Austrian court caused and their continued prejudice against Beth and the ignoring of the obvious reality of Dr. Schleslingers vastly inferior home environment compared to what Beth was offering and still offers.
ReplyDeleteIt is also strange for someone who has no admitted connection to the case - why you have set yourself up as Michael's champion - by relying solely on the rulings of the courts and not on the facts of the case.
Finally I fail to see that Beth's gender has anything to do with the facts of this case.
This father will not change. Why would he? He believes his children are better of with him and his family. He really doesn't care about this blog or what people are writing or saying. What I don't believe is that there are no legal options anymore in this european country. Is it really you loose or win? We are talking about children. What does her lawyer say? He or she sees the judge and the fathers lawyer regularly and they probably have lunch together. The mother got overnights visits if she would 'behave'. So what does the judge want her to do so she gets more time with her children. Those children simply have no mother. They grow up without a mother and they have nothing to say about it. I hope they don't cry when they see their friends in school and at the playground with their mothers. Everywhere I go I only see mothers with their children. Obviously those Rabbis will not ever help her. That is clear now. The mother must have some legal rights even in Austria. Children in Austria can choose when they are 14 in most countries it is 12. The children spent so little time with their mother that they don't get the chance to bond. Well done father!!! They will be proud of you (or not....)

You never think to comment on Michael's violence which is no longer in dispute, his attempting to put his then wife into a mental home, or the involvement of Konstanze Thau in the case amongst other things. You talk of the mother's PR campaign but you know she has been gagged however would you like to address the lies spread around the Vienna Community regarding Beth Alexander by Michael and her friend 'Janet' amongst others? Do you really think Michael will succeed in breaking the extremely close bond and love between Beth and her children? Why does he seem to want to break that bond and turn her children against her? Is Michael that sick. Its not really anything to do with the mother. Its all about Michael and his abuse, his lies and most of all about his anger issues. Don't you think Michael would be a lot better off tackling his issues resulting from his miserable childhood and asking himself how he has turned into this angry twisted person who only wants to hurt (perhaps as he has been hurt).

Does the child care and Protection Board still believe she is not capable of taking care of her children? So only in Austria the other parent has no right to spent more time with his or her child(ren)? What is the reason the judge won't order for obligatory mediation? Are they all that foolish in Vienna that they don't know this causes stress and trauma for the children, especially when they are grown up.

ReplyDeleteIt is not true that courts usually award custody to mothers. The courts award custody to fathers in 95% of cases -- when the court is the one to decide. When it is 2-caring parents (instead of gender bias, negligent courts) who make the custodial arrangements btwn. themselves that the figure is 85% of mother who are 'given' custody of the children under 'habitual custom' agreements (as mothers are primary caregivers of children in every country of the world). ReplyDeleteYou are correct that mother's are overwhelmingly awarded custody by secular courts. The reason for this being is that secular courts have, be default, a strong bias against fathers.

Maybe it is new but in my country when you split up you get 50/50 even when parents don't get along or the father was abusive. Both have equal parental authority even when the agreement is every other weekend with the other parent (father or mother). But from what I understand now in Austria you win or loose and when you loose you see your children a few hours a week and you have to wait till they are 14 and hope they want to live with you. And before they are 14 they have absolutely nothing to say. Very strange.

His arguments bare no logic at all! Although the father had many of the children's teeth ripped out, which obviously makes it very difficult for them to speak, does he think that they are just objects without any feelings?
It is obvious that the children love Beth. We saw in the lovely photos that Beth put up of them having a good time with her how much they adore her. It was pure spite and jealousy that Michael got Beth banned from posting anything about the children. He couldn't bare to see what a loving relationship she has with the children. In other EU countries, people are entitled to free speech and Beth was only posting lovely photos of her children, which is normal for a parent to do!
Unless Michael Schlesinger believes that his children are stupid, he should realise that they know exactly what is going on. They are growing older and will come to despise him for his controlling behaviour. He is not only punishing Beth by denying her contact, but he is punishing his children. How long does he think they will tolerate what he is doing to them?
When they come of age they will be able to sue the Courts and also tell the Jewish Community in Vienna what they think of them, They will be given every resource to be able to do so, because the behaviour of the Austians is totally irrational and the children were taken from Beth for no good reason!
Michael Schlesinger may think he holds the cards now, but time passes very quickly and he can't imprison his children forever!

After getting full custody of all four of my children from both the civil and criminal courts in California, I was still faced with near similar issues in the Jewish Community ( as Beth). HOWEVER, the RCC (Rabbi Avraham Union and Rabbi Van) saw what was going on, and supported me in obtaining a Gett. My prayers and hopes that the rabbinical leaders in Beth's community show their support of Beth and her children and help her obtain the proper Jewish closure and support as I have. - Diane Polonsky

Mothers withholding visitation has absolutely nothing to do with this case. Michael Schlesinger has very serious allegations of violence against him, both during his marriage and afterward. He tried to put his then wife away in a mental home with the help of a fellow member of the Jewish Community in Vienna who is in fact police employed psychiatrist who had never even met Beth (an act of extreme violence), he lied to the police that he was a psychiatrist. He admitted in court that Judge Konstanza Thau was helping him in his case. He also forged Beth's signature in order to get her benefits paid into her account. Anything else? Oh yes, he continually denies Beth her G-d given right to be a mother to her children and cancels her visits as much and as often as he can.

ReplyDelete"Male dominated courts" is off-topic. Some people are obsessed with it but here we are pointing out the irregularities of Beth Alexander's case and not gender issues. Diane was, unlike Beth, obviously supported by important rabbis in her community. Rabbis Eisenberg and Biederman are not giving Beth any support at all.

I have been studying the claims by male-supremacists groups that fathers are discriminated against in family courts and find NO EVIDENCE, REPORTS OR STATS which substantiate such an outlandish, falsification of the truth.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand reports, stats, and evidence (and 2 landmark jurisprudence Gonzales Lenahan vs. USA, 2011 & Gonzalez Carreno, 2014 (CEDAW)) clearly, beyond any doubt, demonstrate not only systematic & extensive discrimination against women in family courts, but systematic & extensive cover-up of DV & discrimination against women in the courts by govts around the world - elevating these human rights violations to crimes against humanity. Which for all of you out there who are aiding and abetting abusers means that YOUR CRIMES HAVE NO STATUTE OF LIMITATION OR JURISDICTION WHERE YOU CAN AVOID PROSECUTION.
Unfortunately, it is not only in Austria that they are "foolish" -- I have another word for it "unconscionable and criminal stupidity& human rights violations". The atrocities you read about here are being done in countries and courts across the globe!!

It is not to her advantage to have the type of activist you are joining in and "fighting" for her. You seek to give women an even greater blank card to shout abuse, and therefore be automatically awarded full custody. Rather, you are saying in 95% of highly contentious cases where the judge had to hand out a ruling, custody given split as joint custody, with the woman having physical custody most of the time Thank you for your clarification.
Is there any hope? Are their signs that things are improving or is it just getting worse? Can't the Robin McGraw Foundation help? I must say that I can't believe that the USA is putting children into solitary confinement, that they had the death penalty for children until 2005 and that they put children for life in prison. I'm sorry but not all countries are alike. In europe we are not that cruel to children.

People like the police psychiatrist Foldes in Vienna who would help a violent and abusive husband to lock his wife away in a mental home without even meeting her first. People like the Judge Kontanza Thau who interferes in a case that's nothing to do with her and helps that same spiteful abusive and violent husband grab two helpless babies out of their innocent mother's arms. People like the corrupt Judge Gottlicher who go along with their vile plan and don't care two hoots about the very children they are supposed to protect from men like Michael Schlesinger. Professional people like chief Rabbi Paul Eisenberg who turn their back on the suffering of innocent people and children and turn their back on everything a Jew and a Rabbi is supposed to be. People like Chabad Rabbi Jakob Biderman who hides same children away in his school (state funded of course) for the same abusive father and husband, who write voluntarily to the corrupt Judge Gottlicher telling her same children are thriving when same children traumatised and having teeth ripped out and of course the wonderful Messrs. Deutsch and Muzicant lay leaders of the warm and caring Jewish community in Vienna who somehow lose their voices when it comes to the innocent and defenceless mother and same children but who are ever so vocal when it comes to screaming about anti-Semitism and who rush to Israel to have their picture taken giving silly biscuits to wounded soldiers (who are real heroes giving of themselves for Eretz Yisrael).

A sick. sociopathic father who controls the court, the judge and the Vienna rabbis by lying and repeating the mantra: "The children need stability," to keep them away from the mother they so desperately need and are being deprived of. What will become of these unhappy little boys? They will grow up with personality disorders as a result of the inhumane role model their dad is providing for them. They will be learning to hate women. They are not leading normal children's lives, being dragged from one therapy session to the next instead of playing with their friends and beloved mother. Their learning difficulties will undoubtedly lead them into drugs and alcohol as they get older. Poor, poor Sammy and Benji! The victims of a twisted man, a sick community and a corrupt judge.
ReplyDeleteRoos I beg to differ with you this father does not believe his children are better off with him. He couldn't care less about them and is only interested in tormenting and torturing their mother. Its in his every breath and fibre of his being. He did not want those children because he loved them, he just wanted to take them off their mother. He lied about her being mentally ill, got her friend Janet to spread it about his wonderful community and has lied ever since. These children to have a mother and are as devoted to her as she is to them.

While the death penalty does exist in the USA, and the issue of trying minors as adults is a human rights violation in and of itself, there has never been a specific "death penalty for children in the USA" before or after 2005. And, could you please clarify "putting children in solitary confinement" -- where and under what conditions is this occurring? If you have information as to specific cases, please let me know and I will look into and take action immediately. (I am aware of 'behaviour modification boot camps for children which participate in the most horrific abuse and torture of child victims of domestic abuse in efforts to 're-indoctrinate' them into 'acceptance' of the domestic violence (sexual, physical, emotional) to which they are victims at home (with the intention of silencing them), but solitary confinement in prisons for children, I am not aware of -- please cite source.)

This org (like ALL DV orgs) does not have the power, authority, or resources to attack and challenge rampant negligence, corruption, and fraud within the courts. ReplyDeleteEmunah, you may be doing the (unnamed) police medico (an "Amtsarzt" or GP who works for the Vienna City Council) a disservice here, although I basically agree with almost all you say. These drs are not psychiatrists. The person you're referring to is Dr Paul Földes, a Schlesinger partner-in-crime who has, like his pal, so far got away with blue murder.
ReplyDeleteFöldes, who comes from the Otto Wagner Spital, where Schlesinger now works, is also responsible for psychiatry cases at the Wilhelminenspital, where Schlesinger did a considerable amount of his internship. Földes, like his pal, is from the Jewish community. Together, they tried to fool the police into believing Beth needed to be sectioned. Schlesinger told the police he was a psychiatrist (a whopping big lie!) and Földes dared to state Beth was mentally ill - when he had never even met her! It was the police medical and paramedical staff who were not fooled by these two "illustrious" representatives of the Vienna IKG.
Quenby Wilcox has been following Beth Alexander's case for a long time and knows far more about the topics of domestic violence, court-licensed abuse and child custody than any of us who are posting here!

I think it is a pity that the foundation cannot help. So many mothers in prison because they wanted to protect their children from abusive fathers.

Against all odds justice was done and justice was seen to be done.
ReplyDeleteIn Australia, chabad institutions are riddled with paedophilia.Nobody dared to come forward. If there was so much as a whisper then they were threatened to within an inch of their lives. However, brave Manny Wacks and his family stood up to these bullies. There have been successful prosecutions which have led to prison sentences. This has led to a Royal Commission to investigate the widespread paedophilia within Chabad Australia.
Corruption, fraud and paedophilia is also being confronted in America. And of course the usual threats which no-one who hasn't been directly involved can even begin to imagine the lengths to which they go. They stop at nothing to destroy the innocent victims from giving evidence against the perpetrators. However, slowly, slowly these people are being outed and justice is being done and justice is seen to be done.
People are waking up to what is going on within the Jewish world, particularly the haredi world, where they have their own perverse set of rules. Such as its OK to commit crimes, but it is against the torah for the victims to seek justice. It is OK to do whatever it takes to protect the perpetrators, even if it means destroying the victims and anyone who seeks to support the innocent victims.
Is this the Judaism which we want to pass on to our children? It is up to us, in this generation, to stand up and stand together to expose all this evil and twisted perversion - done in the name of Judaism - and more often than not hidden behind chasidish garbs.
Austrian Jews, make no mistake, you will also be exposed for your part. It is particularly sad that Austrian Jewry should be part of this twisted perversion bearing in mind the history of the Jews during the nazi era. Yes, My Thoughts, these are the typical methods of those who have committed crimes against other human beings. In Vienna the same kinds of things are happening. Anyone associated with the Schlesinger twins' case who attempts to speak openly about its idiosyncrasies or any journalist Is either gagged or threatened. Look at what happened to IM from the Heute newspaper!
Who are the people doing the gagging? The judge and the leaders of the IKG would be the logical answer. No one else has an interest in putting obstacles in the way of the truth!
Who are those making the threats? We can assume it's not the judge. So who can it be? Once again the trail leads to the IKG. My Thoughts, you have summed up the situation in Vienna most succinctly: Austrians cannot open their mouths and seek the truth as to what is really happening in the case of Beth Alexander's twins unless they are prepared to risk antisemitism charges. No wonder the world is looking askance at the Jewish community in Vienna and asking why they are treating 3 harmless members in a way that sadly reminds us of how all Jews were treated in Austria 77 years ago.
This is a gross miscarriage of justice. Legally, has Beth really come to the end of the road? Is there really no legal avenues left to pursue when it is so clear that the children are not thriving whilst with the father? It seems obvious that the father only ever wanted custody of the children to hurt Beth, rather than because he believed he could provide a loving, safe home environment. Any decent parent would put the wellfare of their children before their own but this appears to be the very reverse. The father's objective is to hurt Beth, and he has no concerns if this causes distres and misery to his children - they are just collatoral damage. What type of parent behaves like this? It is shocking, wrong and utterly, utterly sad. Does anyone know at what age a child is able to influence or challage the courts custody arrangements? There are so many people supporting Beth and I hope that this provides her with some come comfort.
ReplyDeleteBPC, the father of these beautiful children is a human being (it's not possible to call him a "man" - a mouse would be more accurate) whose sociopathic, narcissistic characteristics have fooled many people, especially those in Vienna in positions of authority. A person like him should have been struck off the doctors' register long ago and never have been permitted - after the crimes he committed - to be granted custody of these children. But nobody in Vienna has the courage to do these things!
