  1. What a stupid and dishonest ploy. According to both, David Hellman and Avraham Goldstein, on the night that they were arrested, Mr. Binyomin Stimler had participated in other such beatings. https://www.scribd.com/fullscreen/265553796?access_key=key-EQNTYu6P8ymAtPNnFLCu&allow_share=false&escape=false&show_recommendations=false&view_mode=scroll Oops.
Oh, lets not forget that Mr. Stimler was wearing a mask to the sting.

Now comes along Mr. Nat Lewin - being financed by whom?? - and files a motion that "no reasonable" juror would find Mr. Stimler guilty. Umm, 12 reasonable jurors unanimously found Mr. Stimler guilty!

  2. As fat as I can tell he was the sofer but had no involvement with the planning or carrying out of the kidnapping or beatings. Even if he knew about it and otherwise is technically guilty as a conspirator, I don't think he deserves the same punishment as the primary perpetrators.

  3. Perhaps you'd like to think what might have happened if the 'rabbi' didn't have a Sofer? Maybe he couldn't have played judge, jury, and executioner if he couldn't present his clients with an official get?

That is precisely why 'acting in concert' laws exist. Those that participate ALL go for the crime.

    Goldstein was the sofer.

    Has he been sentenced yet?
Why did he refuse to plea bargain? Everyone else besides for Epstein and Goldstein took a plea bargain. There is usually a price to pay when a guilty person refuses a plea bargain.
