Using unfiltered internet invalidates witness

http://www.inn.co.il/News/News.aspx/238796

  2. Well, that's a nice approach to solve the get-problem: witnesses possul at marriage, no get necessary...

PS: will the Rabbis who invalidate witnesses for Net-surfing recongnise marriages with such witnesses???

    1. Oh, oh, how about this? Do we retroactively annul the conversions of any gerim caught with smartphones?

    2. Good idea! That would solve the get-problems of Gerim and their children...

Oh, and don't forget to annull all the Giurim where one of the Rabbanim on the beith din used a smartphone once in his life, before or after the giur...

    3. might garnel -- only if the bet din is not the right "charedi"

bat melech -- does not apply if the rav used the phone in the middle of the diyun; i.e., in the middle of hearing the case. (rabbanim are very lax in not paying attention to the proceeding, often going on their cell phones.)

  3. Is there any independent proof that this happened?

  4. Can someone please explain the Halachic basis for this Psak to disqualify and also publicly humiliate the eidim? Is he saying that they are guilty of stealing which is a disqualifier? or is he saying that they are considered halachic "Resha'im"? Is it a Hora'as Sha'ah?

I would like to know if perhaps R. Wosner wrote a "teshuvah" elaborating on his Psak?

  5. What's the Halacha if you go to secular court, and everyone knows about it. Is that better?

  6. I have a naive question: The first time I saw dirty pictures was when I was maybe 7 or 8 years old at a friend's house - the pictures were his father's pictures. I was not raised Orthodox Jewish. I don't remember being seriously affected by them one way or the other. To me, they were just funny, because the people had no clothes. I remember laughing a lot.

But I have heard that kids who are raised Orthodox Jewish are seriously affected by dirty pictures when they see them for the first time. Is this true? If so, why?

I want to understand the answer to this question, because my kids are being raised Orthodox Jewish.

    1. It sure did affect you when you saw the porn as a 8 year old non-Orthodox child. You just never realized how it affected you. But it entered your subconciousness.

    2. Ever heard of the dolphin-test?

It is a picture of two dolphins. Children (and very pure-minded persons) see the dolphins. Adults see naked women.

So it is true that children interpret nude pictures differently than adults - not pornographically. But when you go and close their eyes and make a big fuss about it, they will notice that there is something "special" and become curious.

How about if an eid went to the movies, watched TV, was caught in yichud with his hired maid or secretary, wore colored clothing, went to college, got a secular education in high school (or lower), was caught stealing, went on aliya, served in the Israeli army, praised the IRS or works for it, reads the NY Times or Wall Street Journal, cheats his neighbors, never repays his debts, eats chalav stam, trusts the OU hechsher, davens in a Chabad house while on vacation or when traveling, or transgressing ANY aveira (the possibilities are endless)...???

Welcome to the theater of the absurd!

That's what happens when yopu open the pandora's box and make something a "yehareg ve'al ya'avor" over something that should be relegated to a minor nuisance and dealt with through good CHINUCH and not with bull-dozing and scorched-Earth tactics that are guaranteed to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

  8. Here's my question: how come these guys get to make up new rules but not the left wing Modern Orthodox?

  9. New fad: work done by shohtim or sofrim who have unfiltered access to Internet is considered non kosher...

    http://failedmessiah.typepad.com/failed_messiahcom/2012/06/the-work-of-a-sofer-or-schochet-who-has-unfiltered-internet-is-not-kosher-haredi-rabbi-rules-234.html

Which leads me to my question: A rabbi was recently busted forcing (male) Giur candidates to have sex with him. It stands to reason that he regularly had homosexual affairs.

Will all the giurim where he sat on beith din be considered invalid? Will all marriages he did be considered invalid? Will all Gittin he did be considered invalid? Will his hashgacha be considered invalid?

What degree of proof must be brought?

Has every jew (or Ger) who does a religious act to fear it could be retroactively considered invalid when it turns out the Rabbi, in some way, was not kosher? or does a smicha stay valid even though the rabbi himself is not shomer torah u mitzwoth?
