Hareidim capture molester in mikveh & hand him to police

An indictment was filed on Sunday in the Tel Aviv District Court, charging a Bnei Brak resident with sodomy and indecent assault against three boys aged under 16. [...]

According to that request, the defendant was arrested after a member of staff at the mikva noticed he had come to the mikva just before one of the minors. The witness informed a volunteer in a local Haredi organization, who held the defendant at the mikva until the police arrived.

"Dave said...Considering the source, I wonder if the story is even at all true."

The Yated, Hamodia, Mishpacha are even worse because they ignore and cover up such things.

The Haredi media never reports or even discusses the problem of pedophilia in its midst, in fact in never reports on any crimes in the Haredi world and will actually go to all lengths to cover-up and excuse misdeeds and crimes by Haredim with the standard excuse being that it's "loshen hora" -- so the vicious cycle just continues.

This attitude creates a Catch-22: The secular media can't be trusted so what they report is "false" while the Haredi media is trustworthy and since only what they report is "true" -- the real facts are never acknowledged and the criminals and pedophiles slip through this loophole and posters like David can go on imagining and denying that anything is "wrong" and that way nothing ever gets done to stop the abusers.

  3. This is progress.

And it is a result of all of the hard work of child abuse advocates, and of victims speaking out.

    Education relieves ignorance.

A Torah Jew will do the right thing if given the correct information. When he is fed lies and a cover up attitude such as the 'we're above the law' mentality, or 'you can't trust the police', then he feels helpless in the face of evil, and may come to justify it or twist it to legitimize the cover up in some way (over-emphasizing false accusations or rachmanis toward perps).

Knowing you can and should do something, empowers people to bravely do the right thing, which in the case of pedophiles, is an intuitive response, and shouldn't require rabbinical supervision.
