Rabbi charged with raping 12-year-old girl

YNET

A Netanya rabbi was charged on Monday with raping a 12-year-old girl. David Hafuta, 64, who prayed at the same synagogue as the minor, allegedly assaulted her on several occasions between July 2010 and May of this year.

According to the indictment, the girl asked Hafuta questions about religious matters. In response, he told her that he wants to "reveal her purpose in the world," and for that she has to meet him. [...]

  1. My first thought on this story: OMG!

On second thought, I remembered that the Torah already already addresses this issue, only it doesn't call it "rape" It's called "mefateh", seduction, since she was over 12 years of age.

    Shemos 22:15

  2. This story is very disturbing, it is not simple yids who do such a thing, it is rabbis and leaders. Stories like this one and the one about Tropper corrupting his way to and bribing top rabbis while extracting sex from converts make me wonder, Is it a new phenomenon , part of post churban Orthodox Judaism or it something that went on for ages but now because of the internet we hear about it

  3. Gabi2,
Unfortunately, simple yids also do this stuff sometimes. It's just that when some so-called rabbi does it it gets major coverage, and gets ignored by the media when it's by a simple yid. This leads you to think that it's only the rabbis and leaders.
"Dog bites man" doesn't make news, but "man bites dog" is a headline!

  4. Gabi2,

The Torah was written for all Jews. When Hashem wrote "Lo Tin'af" in the Ten Commandments, he wasn't writing it for the non-Jews. Obviously, he knows what peole are tempted by. Our job is to be the best person we possibly can, learning Torah, doing mitzvos, and preparing for Olam Haba, and block out all those who don't share this agenda.
