Sioux Falls, S.D. A jury has convicted Sholom Rubashkin of 86 federal charges for his part in a massive fraud scheme at his former meat plant, Agriprocessors Inc., in Postville. Jurors declared Rubashkin guilty of bank fraud, making false statements to a bank, wire fraud, mail fraud, and money laundering and aiding of abetting. The jury found him not guilty of five counts of violating a law requiring payment of livestock providers within 24 hours. Rubashkin's attorney, Guy Cook, said they will appeal the decision. 1. The behavior of the OU and other organizations throughout this fiasco was an utter disgrace and chilul Hashem norah.

They could have preempted any of this from happening.

And Rubashkin's gayvah got the better of him. He was offered a plea deal which he refused even though the rabbonei Chabad begged him to take it.

Still, our "leaders" have learned nothing. There has been much discussion on websites such as Rav Yudel Shain's that Rubashkin is still sneaking meat in from Uruguay and peddled by mysterious figures showing up to go "pssst", I have some meat to sell with no markings. This is being aided and abetted by hashgochos like the Queens Vaad who supposedly implemented transparency controls because of the Finkel scandal. They never learn.

Rubashkin, 50, testified today at a detention hearing in a federal courtroom in Cedar Rapids. He is seeking to be released on bail pending his trial on 72 immigration charges.

Rubashkin was convicted last week by a Sioux Falls, S.D., jury of 86 charges that included bank, mail and wire fraud, and money laundering. He faces a prison sentence of hundreds of years.

U.S. District Judge Linda Reade will decide on Rubashkin’s request sometime in the future.

Guy Cook, Rubashkin’s attorney ... submitted six letters from prominent rabbis who are willing to put up their sacred Torah scrolls as collateral for his bail.
