I watched the interview with Krois on Vos iz neias.
He seems to revel in the attention he gets. He says he left yeshiva at 16 to work for chevra kadisha (or so). Perhaps he was a child that did not "fit the mould" but found a way to act out that is approved by his community - or at least not frowned upon.
I would not be too surprised if he suddenly left "the derech" alltogether.
This may be a controversial observation, but I thought that the Eida was primarily a group of non/anti-zionist Chassidim and Litvakim, that ran more or less under the auspices of the respective admurim, and originally primarily under the auspices of the Satmarer Rebbe.
That being said, if Kraus has the support of his own Admur, and possibly other Admurim as well, that constitute the Eida, would that not make him a representative of at least part of the Eida?
Secondly, considering th insular and invasive nature of Toldot Aaron(as they seemed to even admit in the video) is it even possible to say that the admur of Toldot Aaron doesn't know about his activities?
What can be said if his own Admur does not condemn him?
Ahh, R. Pappenheim is the 70+ year old person Jonathan Rosenblum interviewed as an Eidah spokesman. R. Pappenheim is the person who said he is opposed to the Jerusalem demonstrations. I remember that now.
So if he is not an Eidah spokesman, who is he? A legitimate Rabbi?

Then apparently not. Though if someone read your post without checking out the Hebrew language link they may have mistakenly assumed it to be referring to the elder Rabbi Poppenheim that was interviewed in the media as a leader of the Eidah.
Interesting: they kept him through all those years, with all his semi-legal and outright criminal activities, but one TV interview and he is out.

ReplyDeleteIs it only the Dayyanim of the BaDaTz? If so there is no Popphenheim.
This to me seems to be the essence of the misunderstanding. Who are the leaders and thus who determines the spokesmen.
There is also a Rav Poppenheim in Ramat Beit Shemesh Bet who was a spokesperson during riots there.
