But I sometimes feel the Toeles is miniscule. It is a remote possibility that I will be able to use the damaging information in any way to protect myself, or others; nor do I often feel that I can remedy the situation that would require receiving any particular Lashon Hara to fix the situation.<br /><br />So I will cut the speaker in those cases where I believe the Toeles is non-existent.<br /><br />But a Rabbi of a communy does have power. The Rabbi comes in contact with members of the community and has opportunities to rebuke them privately and/or publicly as he sees fit.
