It is transactional, again another narcissistic trait. Obviously he's aware of the distinction between giving and taking. But it is again a cognitive description of an emotional state. Emotional empathy is a first person ontology, to bring a philosophy of mind term. Acts such as giving are third person ontology, that the narcissist is only capable of relating to.
