Israel waged the Six Day War in June 1967. The 12-Day War with Iran in June 2025. And now, in 2026, the 12-hour war. Again with Iran. Again in June.
To help make sense of what happened, what the country experienced, and what it means going forward, it is useful to look at other examples.
In a Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security Zoom briefing this week, former National Security Council head Yaakov Amidror and Eran Lerman, a former senior NSC official, turned to two seemingly unlikely examples: North Korea and Google.
The week’s events made it clear to everyone in Israel that there is no free lunch. US President Donald Trump’s support for Israel – the steps he has taken across the board over the years to assist the country – is not without a cost. And the cost is that he gets a say, a big say, in what Israel can and cannot do.
Chareidim are rioting around the country, shutting down roads and train lines, screaming Nazi and Shiksa at people who just want to get past, attacking the police, setting fires and assaulting women. Any thoughts as to how this community has gone completely nuts "in the name of Torah!"?

ReplyDeleteAbout to get back on track. This is a very good article and it explains the kind of things that are going on behind the scenes.
ReplyDeleteIsrael should not be seen as dictating to America what they should do.
It's only stating the obvious in a way that makes Trump the bad guy. Of course Trump is going to condition support to Israel on following his directive. It's like a parent telling a teenager to make his bed and help out with chores around the house. The teenager lives in his parents' house and they pay his bills so he has to comply.
DeleteIsrael's issue is that it needs to rebuild a comprehensive armament industry so it doesn't need to worry about America threatnening not to supply it.
