Documents show terror group moving armed-wing chiefs into civil roles that will let it hold power via technocratic administration, while also girding for fresh round against Israel
US President Donald Trump is pushing full steam ahead with his vision for a post-war Gaza that is not ruled by Hamas. But evidence seen by The Times of Israel shows how Hamas is moving effectively to subvert him.
The terror group is preparing a shadow government, and working to insert military commanders into civil roles once the Palestinian Authority-linked technocratic leadership begins its activities in Gaza, documents seen by The Times of Israel indicate.
But despite the international efforts and optimistic statements at the Board of Peace and elsewhere, what are understood to be internal Hamas documents seen by The Times of Israel show that Hamas has no intention of giving up control over Gaza in practice, even if it does so in name.

ReplyDeleteAfter WW2, the US had two problems. One was that they needed Germans with government experience to run Germany and they didn't want them to be Nazis. Two is that the Soviets were grabbing all the Nazi scientists and military specialists they could to build up their technology and given them an edge over the Allies.
But after 15 years of Nazi rule, there were no Germans with governing experience who weren't Nazis because the Nazis had killed or expelled all the ones who weren't. So what to do?
They had no choice. Lots of Nazis worked in the post-war German government because there was no one else. Lots of Nazi scientists and military experts were taken to the UK and US to ensure the Allies would stay ahead of the Soviets.
Now the US is faced with the same quandary. For almost 20 years Hamas did run the day to day affairs in Gaza in addition to building their terrorist infrastructure. There is no one capable of handling day to day life in Gaza other than Hamas because they killed anyone else who might've been able to.
But unlike Germany where the Nazi party was smashed and all its leaders eliminated one way or another, Hamas is still organized.
The US needs to figure this problem out.
Some of the former Hamas people were simply opportunists. They were not motivated so much by ideology as by simply a desire to work within the system that existed. Create a new Trump designed system and hopefully they will thrive within it.
DeleteThe flaw in this thnking is that all Donald Trump is doing is creating the circumstances for a future MGGA movement and MHHA movement (Make Gaza Great Again and Make Hamas Healthy Again).
That being said, if the current policy leads to a Nobel Priz for Peace for Donald Trump in the short-term then it is probably a good policy.
