Rabbi Dov Lando: Don't participate in demonstrations

Rabbi Dov Lando, the head of the Slabodka Yeshiva and a leading Lithuanian-haredi rabbi, today (Tuesday) reiterated his stance on the draft law issue and called for not participating in protests.

"Some are going out against it, they are holding demonstrations, and they are doing great harm. Do not participate in the demonstrations!" he said during a conversation as part of preparations for the fifth annual education conference of the 'Hazino' Center.

In his remarks, he also criticized those going out to protest, hinting at the actions of the 'Jerusalem Faction.' "There are also those who disturb and hold demonstrations and other nonsense - do not participate in the demonstrations!"

  1. Reiterated his stance? He's on video and audio calling for these demonstations, demanding the boys go out and cause trouble and now he's "reiterating" his stance?
Again: any Chareidi boy at one of these demonstrations is proving that he doesn't actually prioritze Torah learning and doesn't think Torah learning actually protects so arrest and draft him.

  2. Why do we need Gedolim? because all the other Yeshiva graduates with "semicha" don't know what they are talking about, and make up nonsense all the time. You need to finally get a Gadol to speak in plain, common sense or logic. eg with s-x abuse, it took getting a heter from rav Elyashiv to finally allow going to the authorities.
Alternatively, use your common sense, and find justification afterwards.

    1. Decades ago, someone wrote an article and the summary was: In the great fight between the Misnagdim and the Chasidim, the Chasidim won.
Maybe it's because they invented more chumros and then looked down on the yeshivish types with a "Look, we're more frum than you because we do this". Maybe the Chrisian aspect of Chasidus - the Tzadik as the semi-devine being who is the necessary intercessor between the Chasid and God - appealed to them.
So like the Chasidim they invented a uniform and chumros, and they elevated their leading poskim to The Gedolim(tm) status. Heck, R' Eliashiv, z"l, wore a shtreiml. Can't let that Rebbe down the street look more "authentic", right?
So that's why The Gedolim(tm) hold this much authority. They are the Rebbes of the Yeshivish world and treated the same.
